Hey, I've seen that wall! Long after scaling it myself, I see it go up in the eyes of every JW who gets the impression that I might be apostate; it's why I prefer a very gentle approach with the people who call during door-to-door work. You can't talk their language.

How Jehovah's Witnesses Control Your Mind - Controlling Your View of Truth
by flipper infor those of you, newbies or perhaps others who haven't read steve hassan's book - " combatting cult mind control" here are some very important things to remember of how jehovah's witnesses and other " mind control" cults operate .
it may help you to understand some things to see how we were all faked out at one time in our lives.
hassan's book states , " in totalistic cults , the ideology is internalized as " the truth ", the only "map" of reality .

Reinstatement to inactivity.
by R.F. ina person is disfellowshipped, works hard to get reinstated and once they finally are, they go straight to inactivity and you almost never see them in the kingdom hall again.
when i was an active jw i couldn't understand why a person would go through the process of reinstatement only to become inactive.
i understand why now .

Denied re-instatement
by MMae ini am curious: how many of you also experienced this, as i did?
prior to my own experience i had never known of anyone who had "served their time," attended meetings regularly, and in everyway demonstrated a good heart, being turned away.
but then, i guess i wouldn't have, would i?.

That's a really ugly thing. After three months in my own personal hell I gave up; by then I knew that I was only doing it to cheer mum up and that I despised every tormented moment at the back of that depressing hall. Friends had taken from three months to four years. I had started off aiming at two, but I knew I didn't have it in me.
Hey if I'd held out, I might have made it back by now. I'm so glad I didn't. I just love life now.
Welcome, btw!

Be kind to yourself and don't expect too much of yourself. Let yourself grieve.

Hardcore evangelical intellectual just fell for an enlightened JW girl
by Stuartmc ini'm new here, but am mightily impressed with the insights, care and compassion exhibited here.
i like to briefly share my story and receive some insights and "good counsel" from you good folks.
here goes- i'm a 49 year old lawyer, whose been divorced for 8 years.

I can't believe it possible for a JW who defends the organisation to be open-minded about everything. You will eventually run up against something extremely important to you that you will have no choice but to compromise on. In the meantime you will be slowly worn down by her lack of intellectual freedom, and you'll never convince her that that's her problem.

Sorry
by sass_my_frass intomorrow is such a huge day for australia; our brand-new pm will open his governments' first parliamentary session with the long-awaited apology to aboriginal australians for the time in our recent history when it was policy to remove aboriginal children from their parents.
in some places it was out of fear of abuse, in others it was just considered the best way to integrate part-aboriginal children into white society.
families were broken up, most for nobody's good.

Sorry is just a word, and from this governments perspective a good way to hopefully start down a new road (or at least appear that they intend to). As I'm deeply cynical I'm afraid it will change nothing, but today was so electric, I do like to have hope. Either way, there is nothing wrong with the big, united-floor symbol that todays message was. If it's the start of something new, fantastic, if it's not, at least it's done.

Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree are still my faves. They're still excellent, and they're a band who adapt and improve; I think that it's just how much longer those have been with me.
