  The movie 'Doubt'

  this has probably come up before but i thought it was worth suggesting: this movie is quite intense but meryl streep and philip hoffman are just magnificent (as always), and it really portrays what members of an organisation do when confronted with abuse.

  the leaders of the church handle it internally, but if it's the leaders who are the perpetrators, what can be done?

  it doesn't even occur to the members of the organisation to go to the police on their own; they trust the system they know.

  Do the resurrected get to have babies?

  ok obviously a dumb question, for so many reasons, but i need to know what the current doctrine is re the resurrected; last time i looked they were 'as angels' in that they're not able to breed, which solves the population problem of bringing back to life almost everybody who has ever died.

  anyway thing is this; my sisters' cancer has been resolved for now in that she's currently 'cancer free'.

  it has, however, been a melanoma, a germinoma and a few carcinoma so she's being scanned pretty regularly, and i don't have a lot of info to go on but i think that nobody's talking about what her odds really are.

  Spartacus

  i watched spartacus the other day and was reminded of every district convention drama i've ever seen; the style of music, the style of cheesy 'olden times' garb, the way men treat women, the corny dialogue, the way the 'loose' women were supposed to have dressed (they all wore fluoro nylon shifts apparently, with gold braid criss-crossing their cleavage just so), the melodrama, the righteousness... ah the fifties.. and yet, it was still the most interesting thing that happened for three days, at any dc..

  The Facebook Shun

  a modern twist on the shun the other day: somehow an old jw friend had added me to her facebook friends a few months ago.

  i thought i'd leave her alone for a while, figured she'd read my blog and discovered my current opinion on the organisation and what they did to my family.

  i hadn't messaged her, but the other day i'm on and notice that she's online, so i start a chat.

  Jose Mestre: The Man With No Face

  just watched thise documentary about jose mestre, a man from lisbon, "my mother is a jw", who has grown to middle age with a slowly worsening facial tumour.

  the story follows him as he makes his decision to go ahead with surgery.

  triple j is australias' public youth radio station, pretty popular even with middle-age saddos like me who don't like ads with their new music.

  hack is a weekday 30-minute slot reporting on youth issues, they generally focus on education, substances, youth employment, basic stuff.

  this week the pope is in the country for international youth day so it's about beliefs on hack.

  they're turning kids into slaves just to make cheaper sneakers.

  but what's the real cost 'cause the sneakers don't seem that much cheaper?.

  why are we still paying so much for sneakers when you get them made by little slave kids?.
