That's great information. I read some of the info on that site and wow it really hits home. I always thought that I was just suffering from low self-esteem and depression, but after reading some of that info it looks like I was suffering from post cult trauma.

Post Cult Trauma Syndrome
by rimbaudbunuel ini was browsing through some things on the internet and i came across this post cult trauma syndrome.
i don't know how familiar everyone is with this term.
this is the first time i had come across this syndrome and the symptoms correlate exactly to what i have been going through.

Question about "good works" ??? ???
by Kristofer innot ever having been a jw, i was curious to know something.... are witnesses ever encouraged to do good works for the less fortunate?
(giving to the poor, working in a soup kitchen, helping the elderly, other volunteer work, etc..).
i know scripture states you will know believers by their "fruit".

The following experience sums up how I feel toward the Watchtower Society and Jehovah's Witnesses in general (although I realize there are a few decent people involved in that cult):
A family had a baby daughter that was deathly ill and the doctors enforced a court-ordered blood-transfusion to the young child. Because the JW parents would not agree to the elders' plan to kidnap the child out of the hospital (who was in such bad health that probably if they moved the child she would have died), the elders and the congregation shunned the family and made terrible comments to them like "I hope your child dies from AIDS". Several years down the road the child dies from the same life-threatening illness. The congregation did not even acknowledge the child's death, nor all the JW relatives, however, the local town church and all the neighbors brought over food and took care of the family during their time of need. At the funeral the place was packed, EXCEPT for the first 2 rows reserved for relatives who were basically all JWs.
That is their idea of Christian love!

Anybody Irish?
by love2Bworldly inhello, have not posted in quite some time.
i put up some st. patrick's decorations at work, including one of those demonized little leprechauns, and enjoyed the look of a jw i work with when she came into the office this morning.
you know the look of pretending they didn't notice those evil holiday decorations?

Well I am a redhead and grandparents on one side are very Irish and the other grandparents are Welsh. But I was born and raised in the good old USA. I would LOVE to visit England and Ireland some day.

The Worst Public Talk Ever
by onesong inwhat was the absolute worst pt you had to sit thru?.
i was thinking that for me the worst outline is "get a firm hold on the real life".
yes a life constricted by endless and ever changing rules, burdened by guilt, fear and obligation, and all the while hoping for an empty promise has got to be the "real life"

Actually 2 talks come to my mind.
The first one--the brother was describing the New System and how he could throw his glasses away and he made a gesture by taking his glasses off and pretending to throw them. I have the last laugh on that brother--I had Lasik surgery a few months ago and guess what! I threw out my glasses and not because of the New System!
The second one is the last public talk I ever attended. The brother said we should be single like the angels are, who are happy having sexless lives. Ugggghhhhh!!!

When I was involved with the Witlesses, I didn't have a family in the troof or an elder dad and I was not a pioneer, so that pretty much meant you were on your own. I am so glad I wasn't popular though because I was able to fade out and no one seemed to notice.

I don't know what I believe anymore. It took me many years to realize the JWs were full of bull poop, and I've been to various churches since my exit. The church I used to go to made the most sense, it was "Church of Christ" and they taught metaphysical stuff and reincarnation. They taught that Jesus was a great and unique man/or god, but so was Buddah, Allah etc etc. They taught that thinking positive thoughts can improve your life and things along those lines. I'm thinking of going back, but haven't done so yet.
It's getting harder and harder for me to take the Bible literally. I have such a hard time comprehending all the terrible fates wonderful people in the world suffer, while evil people get away with so much madness and evil.

Welcome! Be glad you are obtaining your education now before getting tied down with family & kids. I need to go back to school, but so far have only occasionally taken a night class. I plan to take more, but a little at a time since I have a family and full time job.
Sometimes I so resent all those stupid talks and Botchtower articles on how evil obtaining further education is!

People who never cry....
by JH in.
does this mean that they have less feelings, or that they were taught not to show their feelings, or they don't have any?

I used to cry at absolutely everything--I felt like such an emotional wreck. Then I went through 2 divorces and had to raise 3 kids on my own. I learned to hold stuff in because I didn't want my kids to see me fall apart; I had to be the strong one because I felt bad for all the bad times my kids had gone through, and I don't like to make my kids sad.
Now I just get stomach aches instead. Healthy huh?
