Birthdays?? Good explaination...please??

i would love it if someone out there could clarify for my stubborn brain just why birthdays are forbidden??

for the life of me, and i was a witness for over 30 years, i still can't wrap my brain around that issue.

i need something more than the two accounts 'gone wrong' and pagen, in the bible.

Dear Inarockandahardplace....

If you want some mind altering, written in stone excuse to why wittnesses aren't suppossed to celebrate birthdays, I am afraid You MY NEVER FIND IT>> along with alot of the other B*sh$t they have ingrained in my head.. (yours too) -not to mention the countless others. I was born a witness, raised, purebred.. dub. The first birthday I celebrated was Euphoric, I was 28.. My 30th was amazing. Once you get there.. You won't beleive how much time has been spent up to this point as "experience" (not lost), just experience.

And Jeff... Happy 50th birthday.. I wish I could be there to celebrate it w/you!

a good friend of mine has a coworker who is a witness.

they have a good working relationship and are somewhat of friends, at least in that arena.

today at work this woman told my friend that she had something important to discuss, that could not be talked about at work.

A good friend of mine has a coworker who is a witness. They have a good working relationship and are somewhat of friends, at least in that arena. Today at work this woman told my friend that she had something important to discuss, that could not be talked about at work. She asked if she could come to her home, or perhaps they could meet for lunch. My friend is fairly certain that she wants to witness to her. She doesn't want to be rude, and doesn't dislike this woman at all...but she also knows she doesn't want to be a Jehovah's Witness! What is the best way to handle this situation?

Something the speaker said yesterday that got my wife thinking. Advice?

i was working yesterday so i wasnt at the meeting but the speaker in his talk made comments about 1914 on several occasions and towards the end of his talk he mentioned that if any new ones in attendence didnt understand the signficance of 1914 or how we know that christ started ruling in 1914 that they were invited to ask any jw in attendence to explain these things to them and they would be happy to.

this really got my wife to thinking because as a 28 year old jw who was raised as a witness and who has always been very active in the ministry she couldnt explain 1914 or any beliefs that we have as witnesses in regards to 1914 other than things havent been the same in the world since this pivotal date.

something as simple as this comment from this speaker can be the first step into seeing the errors in the wt belief system.

Well, Well, Well, Now isn't that a loaded question!?

Well.. I must say... Where to begin? There is such a list.. In no paticular order I: (drumroll please!)

1. Left my husband.. walked to my best friends house.. crawled up on her foor (3rd floor) proceeded to get drunk.. called an aquaintance.. He talked me off the roof.. We went to his house.. Fornicated.. 5 years later.. were still forniKatin'!

10. Went to a hotel... Bought dirty movies all night.. Did the "M" word along with it!

11. Tried to smoke.. Did'nt like it!

12. Tried Grass... Over it...

13. Said Bless You... over & over till it became a habit!

14. Tried to get in my mind that "worldly" people were not all Axe Murderers

15. cussed.. (now I try not to)

16. Celebrated my 28th Birthday.. My first CAKE.. My first PARTY! Wow! Was that THE best night ever!

17. Tried to tell my friend.... But needless to say.. I knew what tree I was barking up..

18. Bought my first Christmas Ornament. put the date on it.. Then a couple of years afterwards.. Celebrated.. i am known for the prettiest tree, house, etc..

19. I am a great gift giver..

20. Forgave myself for not being there... for my first "real" best friend" Valerie, who was a wittness.. was later D'f'd...After that I never spoke to her.. or even saw her.. I snubbed her LIke a good little Wittness girl.. A few Months later she got in a car accident, then coma, and died.

The list goes on.. But Now. THankfully.. So DO I!

speaking as someone who believed it all right up until about a year after i was df'd i just cannot understand the reasoning of people who don't go out on field service, don't go to meetings, don't participate or believe and still stay in the organisation.. i know that it is hard to leave, it's made to be hard, but some of the postings on this site make me think that it must be harder still living a lie and keeping up the pretense.. if you don't believe, why would you want to conform to all the petty rules and subject yourself to men that you don't believe have any authority.. i really do hope that as soon as possible you can all take a deep breath and finally be true to yourself.. zaphod

These are some truly heartfelt comments.. and I just wanted to add.. I left.. It was the hardest thing I have ever Done in my life! (And I gave birth, no drugs, to 2 children!) (OUCH!) But seriously.. I tried to explain it to my brother.. This one point..:

Being "out" of the (so-called) truth.. Is a Much harder Path than Being "in"..

I am sure this is not true for everyone.,. But for me.. I come from a large, close, family.. I was born into it.. I went through having my two children without my Mother there.. After I had watched her be in the delivery room for so many of the "Sisters" Yet not for me. SHe didn't even see my children until they were almost 1 and 2.. Being a wittness had it's definite perks.. I was "In" with the 'In" crowd..(chzy, I know) Lots of vaations.. Lots of perks through services.. etc.. Had a wonderful circle of friends.. I tell people that it was alot like that movie "the Firm"... Now I think it's much more like the "Stepford Wives"

So now I take the hard & narrow path they spoke so much about.. tou che'!

Bookstudy Group Disbanded......haha

i just got word that the bookstudy attendance in one of the groups at my hall has dwindled off to numbers so pitiful that they're dissolving this particular bookstudy group and splitting up the remainder and shipping them out to other bookstudy groups.

PS: Bookstudys in ones home sucks.Reason(s): setting up the chairs sucks,some of the idiots/elders refuse to take off thier damn shoes, others brats, (due to utter boredom) continue to get up and flush the toilet into oblivion. some won't leave when you want them to. It's a pain in the arse.

I don't think you could have said it better...

Oh.. and by the way.. I think I may have been one of those habitual flushers.. Atleast I know I Spent AS MUch time as possible in the bathroom.. Going through the cabinents.. etc...

As for the bookstudies.. We never had them in our home.. But my inlaws did.. Thiers was soon disbanded due to the main Elders inability to keep his family in check.. How retarded!

It's kind of hard to say.. but for some reason I am sure that If I told you names.. you probably would'nt believe it.. If you are anywhere from say.. 30 to 45... Then I'm sure somewhere our paths have crossed.. My family.. as well as I have "gotten around" I was married into a fairly prominent family.. and all of my brothers made quite the name for themselves! I just feel wierd posting thier names..

My guts hurt justing thinking about how much it hurts.. loosing my family.. My Brothers exspeially, and my friends.. I can't get over the whole.. I'll never have a friend I go WAY back with... It's kinda sad still to me..

Don't feel like such a Diablo.. for being addicted to this site.. You know some where "They" are talking about how sad it is that we are "Dead" And How awful and Evile' we are.. They think the absolute worst.. Like were shooting up in a crack-house,while 3 slugs are having thier way with us.. Because nothing IS EVILER (is that a word?NO.)
