JWs, BAs, Baptists, Church of Christ, Assemblies of God, Four Square, and on and on the list goes. All are hardcore fundamentalist. If you do not accede to their worldview, or vision of God/Christ, you are of the Devil and lost as Hogan's goat. Even though doctrines are different from denomination to denomination the mind set is the same. We're holy and blessed and you sinner are gonna die/burn in hell.

Jehovah's Witnesses and Born-Again Christians are too much alike its scary
by booker-t inever since i left the jw's i visited a few born-again christian churches and i felt like i was sitting in a kingdom hall of jw's.
because born-agains are more like jw's then they want to admit.
both jw's and ba's think they know everything.

Who Was Shocked By the Watchtower UN NGO Scandal?
by AlanF in.
i'd like to get comments from people about whether and how much they were shocked, surprised, or otherwise bothered by the watchtower society's becoming an associated non-governmental organization (ngo).. note that i'd like to see these comments because they might lead to some interesting publicity, so please comment accordingly.. alanf

I've been gone long enough that it was no shock. The society are hypocrites, nothing new there.
I was more shocked by the child abuse issue.(Blonde)
That subject is a different matter. To cover up child abuse, even to the point of protecting the molester, is not hypocrisy it is wicked, it is evil and they are soaked in the stench of it.

Your personal philosophy
by Terry ini like ayn rand's simple variation on the usual philosophy breakdown of:.
1.metaphysics (objective reality).
3.ethics (enlightened self-interest).

I no longer feel it necessary to convert anyone to my worldview.
I do not give advice; will give an opinion if asked.
To the best of my abilities and resources help those around me, as, if and when that help is needed, at the same time recognizing that there are those who are what they are, nothing more, nothing less.
Last, but not least understanding that the person I am past, present, future was/is what I chose to be.

TIME WILL TELL (Did you fake your hours in Field Service?)
by Terry ini know for certain that brothers in our congregation often lied about their time on field service reports.
(yes, we had to fill out quota reports back in the old days).
one brother, harry, would dump magazines in the storm drains!

I don't remember it being a big issue. Ten hours was the goal and I think there was a quota to meet as regards mags and books, but maybe not. When I lived at home we were out every Sat & Sun. That amounted to 4hrs a weekend, more than enough to meet a 10hr quota.
Now when I pioneered, that was a diffrent story, I counted every minute I could think, or dream, of. If I went to visit my grandparents, even tho not there to witness, I put the time down. It was a heidous experince. I lasted less than six months. Just ran out of time.

Did you know of any JWs fighting in the Kingdom Hall or arguing in the KH?
by booker-t inthis might sound funny but i have heard many stories of jw's fighting in the kh bathroom or arguing.
i remember an elder's wife who was having alot of medical problems cursed out another sister in the bathroom.
she called her everything but the kitchen sink i was told by another sister that was in the bathroom when this altercation took place.

Never saw any fights. Did observe some heated disscusions along the way.
I, on the other hand, became enragded at a congergation overseer one night and left the meeting. On the way through the parking lot I stopped and kicked the ***t out of his car. No one ever questioned me about it. This guy was not the brightist bulb in the box. I don't think it occured to him to put 2and 2 togather, went beyond his range of intelect.

Sins: How far back do you go?
by zack inif according to jw's one is cleansed of sins when one repents on the basis of jesus sacrifice, how far back do they/can they go in determining privileges, etc.
how long is a sin that is forgiven by god (according to them) held against you by men?
( wtbts).

Yup ... keep on sellin' them books!
Yeah, sad isn't it. My dad stayed the course, gave his frist puplic talk sometime in '72.
He was so excited. Don't recall, but think he was restricted from giving the 15min talk at MS as well, could be wrong. My memory...sigh!...where did it go.

Why isn't the WTS more direct in regards to "apostate" web sites?????????
by integ ini wonder why the wts does not specifically tell its hapless adherents to not go to apostate websites?
references as to what to beware of on the internet seem to be painted with broad strokes.
always first is pornography, then chat rooms.
-
Quentin
It also gives the elders a wide latitude of interpreting what is an apostate site.(Blondie)
Not only that. The indirect manner in which the WTS gives orders to the rank and file allows for a very wide latitude of interpretation of bible rules, especialy when the individual is charged with wrong doing.

I remember when my dad was reinstated. The only thing he was allowed to do for 10yrs was comment and go door to door. This was about 1963. Don't remember anyone ever being resticted from field service, unless DF'd
