MOUNT DORA, Fla. – A convicted sexual predator who won the lottery is now facing a lawsuit.
Timothy Poole recently won the lottery and was awarded a $3 million check.
Now, two boys who say Poole molested them in 1996 are suing him.
“So, he hits the lottery, wins $3 million, so they figure, ‘Hey, we can finally recover and help compensate us for some of the emotional mental abuse,” said Eric Dubois, a legal analyst.
The lawsuit claims the victims, who were just 9-years-old and 5-years-old at the time of the crime, need to be compensated for their pain and suffering that was inflicted upon them by Poole.
The damages listed in the lawsuit include suffering from physical pain, post traumatic stress disorder and severe depression.
The complaint also says “treatment will continue throughout the rest of their lives.”
“20 years ago, why would you ever pursue it?” asked Debois. “Because the odds are he’s never going to have any money.”
As soon as the check is cashed, the lottery winner could spend it all.
That is why the victims’ attorney also filed an emergency motion to freeze his winnings.
“If we don’t freeze it now, he’s going to spend it. He’s already fled the state once when he was arrested in New York. He’s a flight risk. He’s got $3 million, he can essentially buy his ticket to any place in the world,” he said.
