Just finished reading 'The Crucible'
by sd-7 inyou know, by arthur miller?
well, it's a big deal for me because when i was in school i was assigned to read it, and my mom put a stop to it, going so far as to write a note to the teacher explaining that i couldn't read it because it had witchcraft in it.
there was a bit of back and forth with the teacher over that.

So, if it ruined innocent lives in the process, I guess it was O.K., because at least they nailed Alger Hiss...

Active Bethelites, former Bethelites, is it true that brothers are not allowed to have their head fully shaved?
by La Falta Habitacion Por Sr Hor-Hey!! ini just heard this directly from a circuit heavyweight i had the displeasure of conversing with recently.
he and i got into a little bit of a heated conversation about following the direction of the slave as related to education, and he used the example of bethelites being prohibited from having fully shaved heads.
he was taken aback when i expressed how utterly ridiculous such a policy was/is.

Okay, let's talk about plagiarism (nothing new in music composition). The music from the opening scene in segment one is a blatant ripoff of "Die Walkure" by Wagner. Same trills, same horns, same phrases. If you must steal, steal from the best!

For me, it was when they kicked out Ray Franz and Ed Dunlap
by oppostate infor me, it was when they kicked out ray franz and ed dunlap.. .
i knew about the reform movement they started through ed's brother - and stupidly believed it could work.. .
the clouds were truly parted and i could see it for what it was when they were ejected for nothing but trying to ask for biblical reform.. .

I too, have questions, James. I was in Marion's congregation when all of this happened, but was too young to be "in the loop". I only knew what I was told by the adults.
Reading your sentence, it is phrased in such a way that it sounds like Ray and Ed started the reform through Ed's brother. That was confusing at first, until I realized you really mean you learned about the reform as told to you by Marion.
All I can tell you about those days is that a man I regarded as fondly as if he were my own Grandfather was suddenly declared "persona non grata" and was fled from in public places like grocery stores. I wish I had taken the chance to say how much he meant to me before it was too late. I thought Marion was one of the more interesting speakers in the Hall, certainly a better elder than fat-cats like Glen Abbott. It was a different world once Marion and people like him were chased from the organization... -

BEAVERTON, Ore. - A church pastor is suing a mother and daughter for $500,000 because they gave the church bad reviews online. The family being sued left the church a few years ago and Julie Anne Smith says she and her family were shunned and couldn't understand why. So she went online and wrote Google and DEX reviews of the church and then started a blog. "I thought, I'm just going to post a review," Smith said. "We do it with restaurants and hotels and whatnot, and I thought, why not do it with this church?" Never did she think Beaverton Grace Bible Church and Pastor Charles O'Neal would slap her with the lawsuit. "I'm a stay-at-home mom. I teach my kids at home, and this is just not the amount of money that normal moms have." When the family left the church, Smith says friends were told to end all contact with her. "If I went to Costco or any place in town, if I ran into somebody, they would turn their heads and walk the other way," she said. "All we did was asked questions. We just raised concerns. There's no sin in that." Dissatisfied, she went online to write reviews. Other church members counteracted them with church praise. So Smith started a blog called "Beaverton Grace Bible Church Survivors." But the pastor claims in the lawsuit he filed that her words, "creepy," "cult," "control tactics," and "spiritual abuse," are defamation. "What somebody does in the church is one thing, but when you get out into society we have the right to free speech, and it may not be what people want to hear, but we absolutely have that right," Smith said. The lawsuit didn’t just target Smith. Her daughter and three other commenters are also being sued. "He can say what he wants in the church and say, don't talk about this or don't talk about that, or don't talk to this person, but when you're out in the civil world, you don't do that anymore," Smith said. "And he's not my pastor anymore. He does not have that right to keep people from talking." The Smiths filed a special free speech motion to dismiss the lawsuit. It goes before a judge later this month. KATU News called the church, went there, went to the pastor's home and spoke to his wife. KATU News also called the pastor's attorney. All of them declined to give their side of the story.

"Poor Whedon, he never gets the respect he deserves."
I think "The Avengers" has more than paid off in critical respect and accollades for Whedon.
My mom let us watch "Jeannie" but not "Bewitched","Dark Shadows","Sabrina, the Teenage Witch","Groovy Ghoulies (Sabrina spin-off)".She was real nervous about "Star Trek". She didn't like the people "materializing like gods".
Now that I have grown up, and talking to her today, I realize that part of the issue with her was/is a lack of education and a low level of sophistication, which makes it very hard for her to understand complex ideas or plots. That makes it very easy for a manipulative 'religion' like the JW's to control her and people like her.
