Our son, who is married to a Witness, has just announced that he can no longer take part in Holiday celebrations of any kind. He is slowly being sucked into this org., and we are heart sick about it. From what we understand, he has to purge his life of all these "horrible" things (like birthday celebrations, etc.) before he is declared "good enough" to be accepted (& baptized) into the WTS.
This organization is so insidious. The more you try to reason with these people, the more tangled the web becomes.
Well, thanks for listening. I just had to vent......
PS: If anyone has any advice for us, we're all ears......

even though she knows we oppose the organization she belongs to, she still wants to get together and do stuff with us (i thought jws were encouraged not to socialize with opposers).
she's a very sweet person and my husband & i have a good relationship with her.
Thanks for all your thoughts guys! She and I have had some email discussions, and I've asked her some pretty tough questions.....but she just runs to her elders (or whatever they are) and they give her the answers. She's also invited us to the Memorial 2 years in a row now. We've declined of course. My husband said I should tell her we'll go to her's.....if she'll go to our church. Yeah right. She'd NEVER do that, I know.
We recognize the WTS for what it is. A very manipultive, controlling cult masquerading as "Christian". It breaks our heart that she's sucked into this thing.......

But she never talks about her beliefs when she's with us. Any thoughts? Thanks.

i got the impression she thought they were "evil" or something.
are jws taught that cell phones, pagers, etc.
Geeeez.....those WT magazine "teachings" sure delve into, and try to control every little aspect of a person's life. What next....telling them when to breathe in and breathe out?

......all the welcomes! Nice to have a support group here, since no one else I know is able to help me with my friend (the JW). My ultimate hope is to be able to show her she's in a dangerous cult. But I realize she won't believe me just because I say so. So, I've just been asking her questions to try to get her to think.
The Memorial invitation was a good time to ask why there are TWO different groups of people in her org. One with a Heavenly Hope and one with the hope of living on "Paradise Earth". I told her that was interesting since Paul, in Ephesians 4, talks about ONE Body (of Christ) and ONE Hope. She said both groups are "One" and "United". ???? You just can't get anywhere with them, can you? Yikes!
Any thoughts?
