Thank you, JWoods. My last post was actually directed to miseryloveselders; your post just beat mine to the board.
"Encourages gluttony". That is so ridiculous. The excuses they come up with are laughable. I plan to challenge my family member this year. And I plan on telling him that he is MISSING OUT on SO many quality family memories and bonding.
I believe the REAL reason the WTS doesn't allow its members to take part in family/friend holiday celebrations is because they're afraid their members will hear something negative and damaging about the Organization! And therefore....start them thinking that perhaps the WTS really ISN'T what it claims to be!
I feel so sorry for him that he's chosen this cult over his family. It's heartbreaking.

Hi,
I plan on inviting a close family member ..(who has been a JW for several years).. to share Thanksgiving with us this year. My husband and I have never been JWs.
What exactly is a JW's reason for not taking part in Thanksgiving??
Could you suggest any "thought-provoking" questions that I could ask my family member....to hopefully help him realize how ridiculous it is NOT to share TG with us??
Thanks for any help!!

Hello Joliette!
I LOVE reading testimonies like yours....because it gives me HOPE for our son, who has been suckered into the WTS cult. Hopefully soon, his mind set about the organization will totally change as well, like yours has.
All the best to you! :o)

Does this mean he's a MS??
by lavendar inmy husband and i (never-been-jws) drove past our family member's kingdom hall the other day.
we saw him out front with several other guys mowing the lawn, trimming, sweeping, etc.
the thing i'm wondering.....does that mean he's a ministerial servant now?

Hi,

The thing I'm wondering.....does that mean he's a Ministerial Servant now? Do ONLY MS's do that kind of work?
Thanks for you help!

Something i've never understood, perhaps you could answer for me?
by highdose ini have never understood how adults that have had a life in the normal world could be brainwashed into this cult?
ok i know it dosn't happen very often, about 1 in every 10 years in my experiance.
but it dos happen all the same?.

Our son is unfortunately one of those "adults that have had a life in the normal world and then brainwashed into this cult". In his case, he started dating a girl who was studying to become a Witness. She was eventually baptized after they were married....then started putting tremendous pressure on him to join. He did. We never get to see him at Christmas, birthday parties, Easter....or ANY other Holiday celebrations. He doesn't even acknowledge me or his dad on Mother's & Father's Day anymore. That hurts.
He was brought up in a normal, happy NON-JW family. It hurts very much to know he's trapped in this mind-control cult. I have to just keep believeing he'll wake up someday and see that the WTS is NOT what it claims to be.
