I found that there were no benefits, and worked extremely hard at keeping the secret all through school from kinder to college, and still today will not admit that I was ever a JW. There was one other person in my grade who was a JW and spent just as much time covering up as I did. As for others in the congregation, well, my sister and I weren't 'cool' enough for them, and copped a lot of flack there too. Loving JW's are NOT.

Benefits of being a Dub as a child
by pratt1 in.
i can't think of many benefits of growing up a a dub but i do remember that i always viewed the other dub kids as brorthers and sisters and they became my support system amongst the "worldly people".
i remember going into a new neighhood or a new school and knowing that once i met the dub kids there, i would automatically have friends and i would not be alone.. this was especially comforting to me because i was an only child, and many times i entered into a new school not knowing anyone and sometimes being the only black kid in the class, my dub peers made me feel welcome and accepted me into the circle immediately.. for many years i feel special to be part of this worldwide brotherhood, and i am sure it is the reason why now i am inafriad of changes and/or new surroundings.. did you have similar experiences?.

The most condescending thing said to you by the (sm)elders.
by diamondblue1974 ini wasnt the most academic of children although i had some capability but i could read quite well by the time i was 4 years old at least for my age; i have always read as a child and still read now as an adult both professionally (research) and for pleasure.
i have always been able to write too...and pretty much advanced as well as my peers did in school...perhaps i am lucky, i certainly feel like i am when illiteracy amongst adults and children is rife at present...however.. i remember when i was 16 the wts in the uk were pushing through a scheme teaching those who were not as able to read and write...and an elder in the hall made a point of coming to me and suggesting that i should actually attend the training!!
!....i explained that i could read and write well enough and didnt need to be taught basic literacy... he said that i might learn something new and should respect jehovahs order of things and show appreciation...i did decline his kind offer rather abruptly....but wtf??

Sitting in my mothers home 8 months pregnant to my live in partner (now husband) I was asked if I was going to come back to the congregation, because if I was, they would have to disfellowship me. I informed them that there was no way I'd ever set foot inside their hall again.

Car Wash Guilt Complex!!!
by prophecor indon't you feel terrible when you take your car to the car wash?
the folks who wash your car, immigrants, illegal aliens, and they work so hard and are always there, the same people dilligently washing your filthy car.
are they not some of hardest working people in america?

We really only have automatic car washes here in Australia. But on a lot of corners here, we have drug addicted, dole bludgers (in other words, living on government handouts) buggering you to wash your wind screen.
I got to a stage last year that I was stressing out everytime I came up to a red light, cause often they will wash your windscreen whether you agree or not, and ask for money. I gave one guy a real mouthful a couple of times.

Yes, it happened to me, I didn't even do year 12. And now I'm almost 32 and having to study to get a half decent job, and I'm finding it really dificult. But hopefully next year I'll get a nice public service (government) job, where I can work on making my way up the ranks, and really contribute to the family.

Hello ScrappyKat!!!
by misspeaches ini would just like to send a big hug to my sister scrappykat who has just recently joined this board.
jwd has been such an eye opener and making me think and now hopefully she will experience the same things i have.
just having it reconfirmed in our minds that it is not the 'troof' can be so damned comforting!
