  i went to a catholic church this weekend with my boyfriend.

  he was raised catholic and was thinking about going back to church, but after the service decided that his belief system was now too different for him to attend services anymore.

  as for myself, it stirred an unexpected reaction in me.

  Someone says "peace be with you" and you think "what the f**k"
  

  What up with that?

  What's up with that is that, I didn't know the meaning of it, and they didn't know me. Therefore, it seemed insincere and awkward.

  "If you are about to make your offering at the temple and you remember you have something against your brother first make peace with your brother"

  My friend, who is Catholic, explained that to me as well, but I was under the impression that that has to do with someone that you have a disagreement or problem with. If you don't know someone, there isn't any need to "make peace". It just felt insincere to me.

  Thanks for the info, GBL. The last thing I need is pressure, and maybe I can make a few friends. That's really one of my main objectives, because I'm just starting my life outside the BOrg, so I need all the friends I can get.

  They seem very open minded and respectful of different backgrounds and beliefs. The minister at my local UU is a lesbian. I know this because when I did volunteer work, I worked at the UU(gasp! But we only used the building, so it was OK with the Dubs). So that intrigued me. I may go this Sunday.

  Yeah what is Hosanna?

  And my boyfriend did not fill me in on the "Peace be with you" part. All of a sudden, people start turning to me and holding out their hands saying, "Peace be with you." I was like, "What the f*ck?" The expression on my face must've said it all. My boyfriend was like, "Oops, should've told you about that." Umm...yeah.

  As for myself, it stirred an unexpected reaction in me. While I got nothing out of the sermon(or whatever it's called there), everyone singing songs and stuff made me miss the meetings for a minute. Not what was actually taught, but the routine, and being able to say that I actually belonged to a religion. There were also times when I felt like I was at a district convention, because it was a large church.

  All in all, it was weird and chances are, I won't go back. I've thought about checking out the Unitarian church in my area to see what's what.

  dropped wife off at convention this morn...

  i just got back home from dropping my wife off at the convention this morning.

  i took the day off of work so i could celebrate the occasion of freedom from mass-delusional-cult-think-programming.

  out on the porch, sun shinning, birds chirping, scotch in one hand, demon haunted world in the other.. as i was driving my wife to the convention grounds, she thanked me for all the help i had provided her in getting ready for the convention, and for driving her.

  I never wore my badge, and it never was an issue. I can count on my hands the time I wore badges to a convention.

  Name Some Trivial Things That Are Big Deals To JWs

  so many things come to mind to show how silly jws sound in reality.

  for example, being allowed to pass the microphones is a big deal, especially to a young brother.

  or being given the "privilege" of cutting the grass or working on a "quick-build" is really something special to a jw.

  But really CHia, was this the same girl who gave you Benadryl out in service?

  LOL, Rich, no! Completely separate occasions. But maybe the girl put Benadryl in my brother's food! Incidentally, her and the brother are married and have 3 children, but everyone was devastated because they felt she wasn't good enough for him, that she was a shameless tramp and that he could've been a CO if he'd had the right wife. Ah well.

  Do you have a mental image of other posters on this site?

  a lot of people here have posted their photo's, but i think the majority haven't... i sometimes wonder when reading posts on here, what person making those posts must look like, not that i want to see their photo, i just find it interesting... i recently got to see a photo of someone i have talked to on here since i first joined, and i had to say the person looked an awful lot like i had imagined, so i wondered if anyone else wonders about things like this?

  is there a particular poster you have a mental image of?

  care to share it and see if the person really looks like what you think they look like?
