I grew up in the southern USA in Mississippi, and my family and everyone in our congregation ALWAYS bought girlscout cookies. Whenever we would stop at walmart for breaks, if the scouts were there, the whole group bought a ton! My favorite were the ones with the strawberry jelly stuff in the center.

But they don't sell those anymore.

Bro Samuel Herd's talk was "Finding Contentment with Your Lot in Life".
He said contentment is not a natural characteristic – but must be cultivated. It can be accomplished once our basic needs (food, love, protection) are met. Paul said he learned to be self-sufficent / content. Contentment is to be satisfied inward feeling about our circumstances. Contentment is the top of our spiritual ladder which we must keep striving to achieve. The first wrung of the ladder is "trust in Jehovah".

Ummmm...can we say CULT?!

Find contentment with your LOT in life=Even though you would like to be an individual and live life how you want, you just need to do what we say, don't question it, and BE HAPPY DAMMIT!

Contentment is not a natural characteristic=Since when? Does a mother have to force herself to be content when snuggling her newborn child? Do you have to learn to like being held in the arms of you lover? It's not natural when you don't like the original task at hand to begin with.

The first rung of the ladder is ''trust in Jehovah''=Don't question what we say. We're the GB and we are INFALLIBLE!!!

Ok...let me rephrase. I am quite aware that we are going to die someday....but I just don't feel like dying in the next year or so due to some crazed leader across the ocean.

Does the US have any sort of defense system against this sort of thing? Can you really blow them up in midair like they do asteroids in the movies?

I'm just looking for reassurance that I might live to get married and have kids.

there has been talk about wt imagery and the use of subtle hypnotism during meetings.. we had a co who very forcefully wanted the piano players axed and the canned music used for the singing.. has there been any studies done to find sub-harmonic messages hidden in the music?.

How about the song that includes the immortal line "...like bees that were molested"? WTF?!?
And then it's not bad enough that that tortured phraseology is used, the next line continues to draw attention to it: "But we can ever beat them off..."

Oh my jeezus! How I hated that song! I could never finish the song b/c of that one part. My mother must have pinched my arm 20 times, but I still couldn't quit laughing. Then when I looked over at my friend sitting across the hall ....we both lost it and had to run to the bathroom! I always wondered if the person who wrote that lyric did that on purpose....molesting bees and beating them off...

Oh god I'm laughing again!!!
