One more observation, when I hear gay men refer to each other as "Bitch" from what I understand they actually snicker and approve of that term.

It's just like MsMcDucket said earlier, when you hear two black people call each other the n word in expressions among themselves, it's no big deal, but it is not okay for someone else to use that to address them in the same way (in most cases).

i have often wondered how you know without speaking to someone if they are gay and you are not in a known gay place - like um brighton or the candy bar in london.. does anyone know of any other gay and lesbian symbols or signs?.
someone told me once that a ring on your pinkie was a sign - can anyone verify the truth of this?.
Sometimes seeing a bear claw sticker on a car is a clue that the driver may be a gay "bear" type (meaning large and solid type homo).
Some athletic-type tee shirts or caps with baseball men with the words "pitcher" (meaning a top) or "catcher" (meaning a bottom) written on shirts is also a subtle way to advertize who you are and what you are into to other gays in public.

However, it is much easier to be a gay man, than a JW man. You´re much more integrated culturally eventhough you at times feel being in a marginal group.
That is not always the case at all. It depends on where you live as to whether it is easier to be gay than to be a JW. I can tell you that is not the case if you live in a southern rural bible belt area; it is not easier to be a gay man; not only are you rejected by the WTS but you are also discriminated against by many people religious people and nonreligious people as well as state and local governments who try to legislate bigotry. In some predominately religious areas JWs are at least respected, but gays are not respected. They are just tolerated or treated with a certain level "civility" at best.

my first exposure to psychology was reading one of phil zimbardo's books after seeing his series on a pbs station.

although it is sometimes hard to put so many elements of a novel into a 2 hour screenplay and motion picture and you end up reading the book and then watching the movie and wish they would have included stuff they left out.
however there are sometimes when you might watch the movie and end up more impressed with the movie and grown more attached to the movie than the book.
can you think of any movies you thought were better than the book it was based on?
Crumpet; Yep there are Tales of the City, More tales of the City, Further Tales of the city, those are the first 3 and then the other ones I mentioned. I dont know if any of the other one will be made into a movie/television miniseries or not though, but the first 3 were awesome, although I am partial to the first one, Tales of The City, however I loved "mother mucka" in the last two, LOL. You will just have to watch them!

Crumpet: I haven't read The Night Listener yet nor have I seen the movie yet. I still have 3 books left of the tales of the city series to read although I do have them which are Babycakes, Significant Others and Sure of You but I do want to read them before Michael Tolliver Lives comes out this summer. I love the characters in Armistead Maupin's series.
