Captains and the Kings by Taylor Caldwell. Another interesting book by her if you can find a copy of it is The Devil's Advocate written in 1952, which is similar to 1984.

i'm reading east of eden again and have hey, nostradomus!

once when i was profoundly sad for too many days, my brother in law sent us a mix tape.
he named each song after a person in our family.
this is the one he named heather.
our insightful posters on this site were able to predict the new "spirit directed" generation teachings and fds teaching even years in advance.
what bomb do you thing will be dropped this year?
i know it will be big.
I laughed so hard reading Oubliette's list my ribs ache!

When I was baptized in 1987 at the "Trust In Jehovah" District Convention there was a talk entitled Childbearing (or it may have been Childrearing) at the Time of the End and it had a discouraging tone of having children during that time since the end was so close.

i have hesitated to post anything about my recent encounters with our jw doctor, because i don't really want anyone to insult her or me, for continuing to rely on her for medical care.
our family doctor is a jehovah's witness.
we were referred to her by our former bs conductor.
I'm with Band On The Run with this one. I could never go to any professional with a high level of education who is still a JW, especially someone that old and has been in the organization for a long time. I can't help thinking there is a level of dishonesty that they are holding onto to allow themselves to be part of an organization that is anti-education and them preaching that and them being in a career that requires an extensive and continually ongoing education. It demonstrates double standards and hypocrisy to me.

when i see them on chia pets, i'm thinking--- has the world gone mad?.
I cut my cable cord some time back to avoid watching shit like that "reality show". If I wanted to see and hear ignorant religious nut cases like him I would have never left the kingdom hall.

underlining is mine.. march 6, 2012 letter.
pursue divine education:some of our brothers are pursuing higher education, feeling that they can acquire a measure of financial security.
as you are aware, the educational system varies from country to country.
Does anybody have a link to a copy of the original letter?

[it gets under my skin when people post that a jw was df'd for being homosexual.
if one ever was df'd simply for being homosexual, one would have ample grounds for a lawsuit.
the comments in brackets are mine.].
Ex-elders here correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the elder's manual the Shepherding book mention that if it is found out that an individual JW spends the night at the house of a known homosexual of the same sex that would be grounds for disfellowshipping. I thought I remember seeing that in the elder's book.

christians are the single most widely persecuted religious group in the world today.
1. christian churches around the world have set apart the month of november to remember and pray for the persecuted church, through the international day of prayer for the persecuted church (idop).. 2. according to the u.s. department of state, christians in more than 60 countries face persecution from their governments or surrounding neighbors simply because of their belief in christ.. 3. with the exception of four official state-controlled churches in pyongyang, christians in north korea face the risk of detention in the prison camps, severe torture and, in some cases, execution for practicing their religious beliefs.
north koreans suspected of having contact with south korean or other foreign missionaries in china, and those caught in possession of a bible, have been known to be executed.. 4. in syria, christians are increasingly becoming the target of violent attacks.
Christians provoke a lot of their persecution.
