Has anybody ever seen a religious restaurant owner turn away gluttons on a basis of his sincerely held religious beliefs?

Indiana "Religious Freedom" (right to discriminate)
by Simon insickening to see the photo of the religious zealots all stood around the governor signing into law the right for people to discriminate against others (gay, lesbian, trans-gender) based purely on religious dogma.. if religious people want those freedoms then the can't have it both ways - they cannot complain if *they* are discriminated against.. "sorry, we don't like zionists, get out".
"oh, it's some special mass and you can't work your shift?
you're fired!"..

HBO Scientology Documentary
by tresdecu inhas anyone else seen the hbo scientology documentary 'going clear' - wow...cults are just mind-blowing you wonder how people can fall for that garbage, then you (those of us former/fading jws) look in the mirror.. i would love for someone to make a major jw documentary like this.
'going clear' is getting a lot of press.
poor tom cruise...he looks like quite the whack job in it too.

I have noticed the headlines recently about how John Travolta has commented that he has not seen the documentary and he continues to speak positively about Scientology just like other people in similar cults. A lot of people that are in cults do not have much concern for others pain or abuse. They only take action if they are personally effected. Do you think that could damage his popularity? Some people might be just seeing some of this weird Scientology for the first time. It’s hard for me to have respect for John Travolta and Tom Cruise and other celebrities that support dangerous rackets like this.

I love how you put all gays just wanting to be treated like everybody else in with these overzealous people wanting to shut this wonderful pizza establishment out of business. I guess us gay folk should just shut up and continue to be the doormat that we are. Maybe we should "wait on Jehovah" for society to come around and accept us just like southern folks in Alabama and Arkansas accepted blacks right after the Brown vs Board of Education of Topeka case.

All Gays Are Perverts
by Coded Logic in"scientists may never resolve exactly how much of a role nature and nurturing play in same-sex attraction.
but one thing is clear: all humans are born with the tendency to succumb to wrong thinking and inclinations.
--romans 3:23. a youth who desires to please god must therefore conform to his moral standards and shun immoral behavior, though doing so may be agonizingly difficult.

Wouldn't the fact that sexual attraction is basically a subconscious response kinda rule out "choice" in the matter in a similar way that the "you don't pick who you fall in love with" argument?

I don't know of any straight people who have left the organization due to religion's view on the gay issue since most people do not leave the religion unless it is something that effects them personally.

JW.org broadcasting studio
by Lynnie inapparently the very cool thing to do now is when you go to bethel you go and have your picture taken in the studio!
my uber elder cousin and his wife just did that back in ny.
it's probably not for everyone, my cousin's daughter and son in law are very "high up" in the org in "finance" and that's how they probably got to do it.

YOU 'THINK' YOU ARE FREE when you leave the Org. . . but it can be an ILLUSION
by Terry indid you know there is nothing more insane than being partly indoctrinated and partly free?.
the level of cognitive dissonance is ridiculous!.
i have told this story before, so i'll shorten it to cut to the chase.. in 1987, i was dating a professional psychotherapist with a view to marriage.

Terry,
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that teaching from Genesis just what all Christian churches teach? I often wondered about that account in the Bible and how other branches of Christendom teach or approach that subject. I have a coworker who is very churchy, spiritual and religious, fasts on Wednesdays (not done because of a church requirement, it's just a personal vow she made to God) and sometimes you can hear her quiely whisper "thank you Jesus", however she doesn't push any of her religious views on anybody and she keeps them to herself. I asked her about this account in the Bible and she really didn't know what I was talking about!!
I also asked her about the account of Dinah since I saw the previews of The Red Tent and she wasn't familiar with that story. I guess her church doesn't bring up in discussing bad association, lol

After Six Months of Hiatus, I can tell you the Watchtower is Starting to Crumble Faster than you think!
by SanLuisObispoTruthSeeker ini took a hiatus from jwn because the wall started to collapse because i lost several people ive known almost my entire life.
these were people i thought would never die, the lies told by the watchtower is unforgivable!
there was a party i attended keeping a low profile while documenting what was said.

The social club of the Watchtower isn't going anywhere. I have relatives ate up with the JW bug. It will always exist in some form. I see a cure for many kinds of cancers and HIV before I see an end to the cult of the Watchtower.

Sunday Washington Post: Gay Christians choosing celibacy emerge from the shadows.

gay christians choosing celibacy emerge from the shadows.
despite encountering criticism, the lgbt community is finding greater acceptance, even in religious circles.

I'm trying to figure out how anyone can be a celibate homosexual while also living together with someone of the same sex. Do they just not find each other attractive? Otherwise it sounds like a recipe for disaster.
You assume gay people want to have sex with every other gay person of the same sex? It doesn't work that way. Do you think that someone like me who is gay wants to have sex with all my other gay friends? Again, it doesn't work that way. There are a lot of factors that determine attractiveness to another individual.
