Caves,
As much as I would like some free time to do that I dont think that's going to happen with me since I work in a hospital lol.
this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.
latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.
the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/11/business/media/tom-hanks-coronavirus.html.
tom hanks said on wednesday that he and his wife, rita wilson, learned they had the coronavirus.
the 63-year-old academy award-winning actor is in australia, where he was set to film a movie about the life of elvis presley.. “hello, folks.
The first week of March in Arkansas there have been 17 deaths contributed to the flu. Last month there was a woman who just turned 61 years old whose family said she was relatively healthy until she contracted the flu virus and eventually died. So far this season in Arkansas there have been 86 deaths from influenza and that is with a vaccine available.
For this reason and the high influx of the flu in the area where I live the hospital that I work at has limited entries and everybody coming into the hospital is screened for temperature and has to go through a questionnaire, including the employees. This is a hospital in a small town, my hometown with a population around 10K. Visitors and employees not passing the questionnaire or have a temp of 99.9 or above will not be able to enter. They limited visiting hours and kids under 15 years of age cannot enter, unless being treated as a patient of course.
We have been doing this before the first presumptive case of Covid-19 showed up in Arkansas. Just be careful out there everybody.
i know there is a huge college/university lobby here in the us that lives off of students paying, in some cases, enormous amounts of money just to attend.. putting politics aside, if that is possible, (and i am not a bernie sanders guy by any means), but how can we pay for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, elementary school, junior high, high school, and then throw a huge debt to someone who wants to continue learning?
can't the us (public and state universities) afford four more years for young people to get on a career path without having to, in some cases, take out a mortgage/loan more than the cost of some homes?
then, (and nothing against immigrants, i am married to one), but then the us has to "import" students from other countries to fill the needs that we should be supplying here.
StilltotallyADD,
I'm sorry I didn't mean to sound so crass earlier. I do know what you mean regarding religion and education. However some of the most high ranking prestigious schools are religious in origin that do teach real science and critical thinking skills as well as theology and religious studies. If I had children I would send them to a private school that had high academic scores or home school them before sending them to a public school.
BTW I've been on this board for 15 years but thanks for the welcome!
a few weeks ago i had an really interesting conversation with three male jws who were loitering around a trolley at the west end of princes street in edinburgh.. i managed to completely avoid giving any hint about my jw past and focussed on why they thought the bible was a reliable moral guide.
i used the subject of slavery to illustrate my concerns.. one of the three was in his early twenties, knew a lot about his own beliefs but nothing about the real life and it was difficult to get through his thought-bubble.
the second one was in his 60s and not very bright.
I doubt you will get a reply but maybe you planted a seed of thought for him to ponder.

Religious organizations are what got the educational system going in the US. Do some research.
i don't understand it.
we have a president who is typically considered a model for what young people want to be when they grow up.
yet, when trump talks, the tv networks keep bleeping out so many of his words, even on fox news.. why?
Rubadub,
I've seen fox news bleep out Trump saying son of a bitch, but I have also seen joe biden say son of a bitch.
I have also seen Joe Biden say it was "a big fucking deal" when talking about the affordable healthcare act so Trump isn't talking any different than any other male politician or any other guy for that matter.
i don't know if this topic has been covered before - it might 've been.. i also recommend flipper's excellent music thread ('what songs have you been listening to?
', or similar).. but, i'd just like to start a thread about certain songs giving me goosebumps.
y'know, when you hear a song that profoundly effects you in some difficult-to-describe way and the hairs on your arm stand on end even though the room temperature's comfortably warm.. so, which songs give you goosebumps?.
Giordano,
I saw Heart in concert twice and their acoustic version of Alone is awesome!

she certainly is passionate about climate change.
🤔.
She is a 16 year old being exploited as a political pawn. Watch her unscripted by her handlers.
ok, ok, so the actual title of the article released today on jw-org is "young people askshould i get a tattoo?
", but i thought i'd replace some words and phrases from the actual article, as follows:"regardless of the motive, you should think long and hard before deciding to have anything growing out of .
your skin!
admit it, we all have things that we reel off when people ask what our favourite music is, just the same as if people ask what our favourite movies are.
we're meant to say "citizen kane" and "casablanca" and not "battleship" or "pacific rim" but we know what we're going to watch if they are ever on tv at the same time (and which ones we've never actually seen).. so how about some confession time?
what do you listen to when no one else is in the house?.
Great thread Simon!
I was an ABBA freak when I was a kid in the 70s. Also growing up listening to my parents music a lot of it grew on me.
I've always liked Tanya Tucker since I was kid and followed her career all these years since she was a youngster.

The Chantels. I remember when I first heard this song when I was a kid I was so impressed with Arlene Smith's vocals.

No female country music artist can put emotion in a song quite like Tammy Wynette
