The 1914 generation thing was one of the issues that I had a problem with. When going through that Watchtower study article and them dissecting the term "generation" they finally go along with the meaning described in Vines Dictionary of Old and New Testament words; the exact publication where they get the meaning of stauros meaning stake or pole as described in The Truth that Leads to Eternal life book. I guess they didn't use that definition of generation before because it would foul up their agenda to deceive people into thinking the end itsn't as near as the WTS says. My guess when I saw that was that they had to have seen that since they have been using that reference book for eons and just chose to ignore it.

microphones were the last straw
by ivy init wasn't the big stuff that made me decide i could never go back, it was one little thing.
i have been thinking about my journey out of "the truth", and i think i can pin-point the last straw.. .
i had been out for years, but always thinking that if i got my head together someday i would be good enough to go back.

If you won the Lottery big time, would you be happier?
by Rod P inhow many of us imagine winning the big one, and all our problems in life would be solved.
we could get whatever we wanted without worrying about money, could buy our way out of almost any situation (like the rich folks do), go on any vacation anywhere in the world, dress to the nines on a daily basis, and use our wealth to get others to do our bidding.. money = sex, power, influence, decadent luxury = happiness???.

I'd like to spread it around to my friends who are in debt.
Cruzanheart, I wanna be your friend, lol
I had friends receive a great winfall but I wouldn't let them get me out of financial binds. I have developed a spirit of self reliance since I have been through hard times and situations where nobody was there for me when I needed it so now I am reluctant to ask for assistance, even when I may need it.

What age were you baptised? Do you regret it?
by doodle-v ini would have gotten baptised at the first "special assembly day" but i got sick just a few days before.
so i got baptised at the d.c.that same year instead.
i regret it, but at the time i thought i was doing the right thing, i sincerely believed i was dedicating my life to serving god.

When you left the JW's, did you keep all your books & magazines?
by Rod P ini had a collection of older publications almost second to none.
along with the 30-year publications index, i felt invincible in the research department.. then i got disfellowshipped and divorced, and my ex kept them all.
" i couldn't tell her "for research" because that would have sounded like i was going to write a book exposing jw's, which would have made things even worse.

I still have all mine in a storage building somewhere; however I would like to get them on CD ROM. I remember picking up a couple of those CDs when they were first released at bethel but they were for bros who had computers back then. I didn't have one at the time.

Should you keep a marriage together for the sake of the kids?
by Rod P intesting this thread.
tried three times already, but only get error message.. wow, this time it worked.
here goes.. there are a lot of people who feel very strongly that you should keep a marriage together at all costs for the sake of the kids, since they feel that children need both a mother and a father.

I seen it on both sides myself. When I was a teenager I started studying with my cousin's husband at the time; both were active. Later on during time time of the studying (I think I was in the Live Forever book at that time) one day I went over and he told me my cousin left him. It wasn't until years later until I found out what had happened. He was physically abusive. He would beat the hell out of her and then walk out the door to one of his studys. He was an elder's son. I wish she would have told me around that time but she believing it to being "the truth" she probably didn't want me to know in case it "stumbled" me.
She (my cousin) vows she will never go back and he daughter is now grown and I doubt will never get involved with the religion. Her former husband? He is now an elder.

is it ilegal to DF someone for voting?
by Pleasuredome ini was wondering, does anyone here know if there are any countries or states that would make it ilegal for a religious group to ex-communicate someone for voting or voting for a particular party?

Just like you cannot get married in the KH if the one your are marrying isn't a JW; but you can't get married in another church or you would get DF'ed.
