Guns. Well said Mr President, if only your countrymen had the same courage to consider changing course.
by nicolaou inive had to make statements like this too many times.
communities like this have had to endure tragedies like this too many times.
once again, communities [were harmed] because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no problem getting their hands on a gun.. lets be clear: at some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries.

I just love it when people who live outside of the US talk shit about Americans and their 2nd Amendment right to own guns.

Resurrection - cell phone edition
by Simon ini have an oldish phone - a samsung galaxy s3.
i don't feel the need for anything faster or better because i don't use it a ton.
i hardly ever call anyone or have anyone call me and it's mostly used for emergency remote access to the forum, to play the odd game and to text the kids to let them know i'm picking them up or they want to be picked up from somewhere (maybe i should sign up as an uber driver?

Thanks for sharing this Simon! I also have the same phone and I really like the phone. Actually it is more than I need. I just bought it because I had an older Samsung Centura I got from Tracfone where I just paid for the minutes I used and it tripled the minutes, txt and data and it worked for me as me paying for the services like that was dirt cheap and all I needed until the phone wore out and kept freezing up so I decided to get an updated phone, the S3 not on unlimited talk and txt for $45 a month (plus all the extra taxes, fees, etc.). I still have my old Tracfone and it works; I just haven't added any more minutes on it.

What if their kid never came back and the couple grew old and needed support because of old age and poor health. The WTS sure as hell wouldn't take care of them. They would be out looking for the DF kid to step in and take care of their sorry asses.

Strange but Sad!
by John Aquila ini had a couple of elders come visit me about an hour ago.
they wanted to inform me that a brother who was well known throughout the circuit had died.
(i actually knew about it but did not go to the funeral) he was about to hit 90 years old, missed it by a few weeks.

They were not bad people, they were very kind and honest.
You say that and then you describe the way in which they treated their own flesh and blood. I wouldn't have anything to do with anybody who treats their own family like that. I don't care if they are JWs or not. I make judgements of character of people a lot of times based on how they treat others and if I see them treat others like crap I avoid them as much as I can.

No mention of DF in new brochure?
by thedepressedsoul ini went on my tablet today and clicked "yes" that i attended the convention (they probably tracked my ip and two elders will show up on my door step).
i scanned through the new brochure on bringing those who have left back.
i noticed that not once they mentioned anyone who was df!

I think the new brochure is just to make themselves look like they are reaching out to those who have left. Most of my relatives who are still in don't bother me since I left around 15 years ago, however I don't live in the same hometown. I did tell my mother that I no longer want anything to do with that religion and if they wanted to shun me as an apostate that would be just fine because I don't need those kind of toxic people in my life.

The present Governing Body will rule the U.S.A.
by John Aquila ini havent gone to meetings in about 1 year and a half.
one of my neighbors who is a jw-lady told me that the co on the last visit said that its very likely that right after armageddon (which is just around the corner) the present governing body members will be in charge of the united states since they are familiar with the culture.
and that the apostles and early christians will be in charge of areas like china.

How would the "acient worthies" rule the earth from Jerusalem since Beth Sarim was in San Diego, CA? I thought that is where they were going to live.

Indiana "Religious Freedom" (right to discriminate)
by Simon insickening to see the photo of the religious zealots all stood around the governor signing into law the right for people to discriminate against others (gay, lesbian, trans-gender) based purely on religious dogma.. if religious people want those freedoms then the can't have it both ways - they cannot complain if *they* are discriminated against.. "sorry, we don't like zionists, get out".
"oh, it's some special mass and you can't work your shift?
you're fired!"..

HBO Scientology Documentary
by tresdecu inhas anyone else seen the hbo scientology documentary 'going clear' - wow...cults are just mind-blowing you wonder how people can fall for that garbage, then you (those of us former/fading jws) look in the mirror.. i would love for someone to make a major jw documentary like this.
'going clear' is getting a lot of press.

I have noticed the headlines recently about how John Travolta has commented that he has not seen the documentary and he continues to speak positively about Scientology just like other people in similar cults. A lot of people that are in cults do not have much concern for others pain or abuse. They only take action if they are personally effected. Do you think that could damage his popularity? Some people might be just seeing some of this weird Scientology for the first time. It’s hard for me to have respect for John Travolta and Tom Cruise and other celebrities that support dangerous rackets like this.
