Movies about JWs
by HowTheBibleWasCreated ini have seen many movies or shows that make a passing reference to jehovah's witnesses but very few dwell on jws.
some like a deadly devotion episode i saw once tells a true story but the portal of jws is all wrong.
by movies i am not talking of documentaries.

Ages of each user here?
by ukpimo ini'm interested to know the age demographics here.
it must be significantly different to other exjw forums.
it would be a damning report for watchtower if most of us appear to have left for decades.. you don't have to mention your exact age, you could always say "in my 50s".. i am in my 70s.

Holding a grudge
by LongHairGal ini read something recently on reddit (not sure what thread) where a person related how some jw told them that ‘they hold a grudge’.. this reminded me of something an old jw acquaintance said to me some years back when i related my bad experience in the religion.. so, apparently, jehovah’s witnesses feel they should be forgiven for anything.
people should forget all about it and act like nothing happened and be charitable towards them, etc… when i read in james and ephesians i got the sense ‘holding a grudge’ was referring to the things average people do to offend each other.. i don’t see it applying to a religion that claimed to speak for god and who engendered hateful and unchristian attitudes towards people.. i know because i experienced this.. in addition, some people’s lives were damaged by listening to faulty teachings and interference in things that were clearly none of anybody’s business.. one case in point: them knocking worldly careers and now there are thousands of destitute jws in senior years with nothing.. then in 2023 the religion does away with a century old teaching about counting hours in the ministry.
meanwhile, i got judged over this.

LHG,
I agree. I would have also mentioned to that JW acquaintance what about the elders waiting for a certain period of time, like 6 months or a year or longer before even considering reinstating someone after being DF'd. The person DF'd may have been DF'd over something he or she may have done a long time ago. Wouldn't that be considered "holding a grudge"?

Yesterday's Public Talk: '' Reject Worldly Fantasies, Pursue Kingdom Realities''
by RULES & REGULATIONS inmy brother ( an elder ) calls me every time he's assigned a public talk.
he believes listening to zoom meetings is a great start, to eventually attending in-person meetings.
the talk is titled : '' reject worldly fantasies, pursue kingdom realities.

OMG, They are still recycling that garbage talk? I've been out of the org for about 25 years and I remember this talk given that long ago.

40 Years Ago Today: May 15th 1984 "1914 Generation" issue was released. False prophecy, thy name is WatchTower.
by WingCommander init's incredible how this cover, and also this "series" of watchtower's is burned into my mind.
i was almost 5 years old when these were released.
“1914 and you” — may 1, 1984 watchtower.

I was 16 years old in 1984 and I remember those magazines and had been around the org for years as a lot of family, aunts, uncles and cousins were in.
It was around that time in 1985 that I started studying and I remember those magazines as well as the Watchtower edition entitled Apocalypse When? with the doomsday clock face with the long hand at 3 minutes till.
Also around that time they announced the UN's call for 1986 to be the international year of peace and they took that and ran it for all it was worth. They reissued the Peace and Security book and studied it and I think it was around that time that the number of JWs doubled. About half or more JWs in the congregation I was attending were pioneering.
The smell of armageddon that everybody thought was in the air was just a steamy pile of bullshit.

Retirement savings
by TxNVSue2023 inwhat's the current jw stance on retirement savings?
i know it changed.
pre1975 it was an attitude of "don't worry about retirement, this system is ending soon".

Unbelievable Amount of PIMOS at Massachusetts JW Convention
by RESPECTFUL OBSERVER inthis comment was made on reddit, perhaps protesting is starting to get the witnesses' attention.. it amazed me how many jehovah's witnesses exiting the convention were reading the protester's signs.
some of the witnesses were taking pictures of the signs.
jws were going by and smiling and giving a thumbs up.

This may be off topic on this thread but I thank God for people like Alex Jones and PrisonPlanet for some of the information I have received from some of his work. Some stuff that I have learned from him I will hear through mainstream outlets YEARS later.
Do I believe EVERYTHING that comes out of his mouth? No. Like everything else I try to corroborate and bring things together. I also don't listen to his show religiously every day like some and a lot of times he seems unhinged but he knows more than a lot of people give him credit for.
I would trust him more than I would mainstream and cable news networks.

Rainbow 🌈 Law Makers will turn on Religion NOT the UN
by JohnTron7 init should be starting to become more clear to people what i've stated for years on this site.
the threat against religion that becomes pivotal will come from lgbtq politicians forcing through " hate crime" bills aimed at religions.
in the past i have had a " maybe" statement from only one commenter.

Moral responsibility.
by nicolaou inno subtlety here, it's going to be obvious where i'm going with this.
please consider the following scenario.. you're seated on a railway platform bench waiting for your train.
a high speed intercity is about to hurtle through without stopping when you see a small child running to the platforms edge!

Reddit post about elder asking congregation for money to fix his car!
by LongHairGal inyes, there’s a post on reddit.
it says that after a zoom meeting a request was made to baptized publishers to give $20 apiece to fix this elder’s car.. while this sounds highly irregular to me and not necessarily approved by the religion, i am not at all surprised at the nerve.
this, unfortunately, seems to be the direction that things are going there!

LongHairGal,
If I was still in the org now and if somebody came up to me asking for money to support those in the "full time ministry" by giving them money I would come unglued.
I remember times when I was still an active witness in my early 20 struggling during bad economic downturns and spending time couch hopping at a friend's place (a "worldly" friend at that) temporarily. It always bothered me that they would collect money for elders, pioneers and overseers but when rank and file publishers had financial problems and stuff all they would do is share scriptures like Matthew 6:33. Sickening.
