Undercover, I agree with you...and I do not want to be the enabler, even in a small way. I am on their 'do not call' list...And i doubt they would want to pursue me....so i am not too worried at that end. At the same time I do not see any purpose in subjecting my mental health to this. There are 364 other days to the year he can see me, if he misses me that much.

my father will be giving his first public talk shortly.
i was shocked by the audacity to be asked to come to his public talk, being told i don't have to believe or come back but can simply come to show my support for him.

mythreesons, yeah that makes me think of the typical JW catch phrase when they see you- "We miss you!" Do they? They have never followed it up with: "Let's catch lunch one day soon." It really means, in JW terms, we want you at the meetings. I am willing to see them for lunch after the meeting as well...if they want.

No Governing Body in Paul's day
by The Searcher inthe given understanding of the bible account at acts 15 regarding the circumcision issue is that a "governing body" resolved the issue.
is this assertion based on scriptural evidence?
while jesus walked the earth, some of his apostles were contentious with each other regarding who would be superior to the others.

The Searcher, if there was actually a governing body present in Acts 15, it makes me wonder why Paul was not disfellowshipped and shunned as an apostate.

elderlite, I was never baptized, but raised in it. So, no he doesn't shun me, however, he is very cold, and antisocial. I see it as yet another situation where JWs ask you to cater to them, compromise and bite the bullet when they themselves would do nothing of the sort.

Throwing this out to the board for input. My father will be giving his first public talk shortly. I was shocked by the audacity to be asked to come to his public talk, being told I don't have to believe or come back but can simply come to show my support for him. This being said when he know if the situation were reversed and he were asked to attend a church event to support me he would not even consider it. I highly doubt I will go. I certainly will not bargain how I will dress if I were to go- jeans and a tee, just as I would wear to any church. Going will also bring back anger and depression and ruin my state of mind for a few days. Ok, those are my feelings.
Any input??

Message at yesterdays assembly
by isaacaustin ina relative of mine was at the assembly yesterday and was appalled at the message givien before lunch:.
she heard them blast higher education...then warn to not miss meetings for work...then they gave the stupidest illustration i ever heard- they said that it is true that supporting your family is important...but not to give it too much importance and said it is like trying to cross a busy street.
they said if you see a car a long distance off it is ok to cross, if you are too careful you will never cross the street.

We don’t need to be too careful, or too far-sighted as far as supporting our family.

What Does Romans 8:14-17 Mean To A JW? Who is the "All"?
by BroMac infrom new world translation:.
14: "for all who are lead by god's spirit, these are god's sons.. 15: for you did not recieve a spirit of slavery causing fear again, but you recieved a spirit of adoption as sons, by which spirit we cry out: "abba, father!".
16: the spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are god's children.. 17: if then, we are children, we are also heirs: heirs indeed of god, but joint heirs with christ, provided we suffer together that we may also be glorified together.".
