Sacolton,
You were a JW for a long time and never gave a talk?
i have a question for the ex-jw's on this forum after months of reading the forum..... many say how good it is to be free of the oppressiveness of the jw's that they can now enjoy the freedom to... have sex, celebrate christmas, gamble, embrace politics etc.
there are still biblical scriptures and principles in place that if you still followed the bible would mean you avoid these things and yet these are now embraced as one of the perks of no longer being a jw so in my confusion i ask.... if these are what you want, isn't it more correct to say you no longer follow the bible as apposed to just the jw's?.
I like debating on this forum but it's hard to keep things on topic, by the way you kinda contradicted yourself, you said I never answered any of your questions and then you said i answered them with red herrings,
No contradiction there Reniaa...red herrings are no answer to the question asked...simply a change of topic...

Reniaa is saying she is not a JW but looking at things at all sides as she considers coming back. This is probably a facade to make it look like WT theology is substantiated by someone who is not a JW but has an open mind. Of course this is a facade by Reniaa, she is obviously a Witness in some capacity
I am sure it won't be the same without you Mouthy, but I know you will be there in spirit.
I understand Grace. Blessings to you.
Mouthy how about 1 more convention next year? If I make it would that sweeten the deal?

It was a good discussion, I'm sorry I didn't address all your points maybe on a future thread :)
limited time was more my issue
Reniaa, It does not appear time was an issue to you. You posted MANY MANY times and addressed none of my points, as well as many other valid points by others. The most likely scenario here is that you are a Witness apologist...probbaly active to at least some extent and are simply misrepresenting yourself. Everything about you and your ways wreaks of being a JW- the way you doge direct questions with red herrings....taking verses out of context exactly as the WT does and doing whatever you can, no matter how stupid it sounds, to uphold WT doctrine. COme on Reniaa, admit your facade. We all know anyway.

Doomvoyager, you are so very right. I mean, honestly..anyone reading the Bible will come to the same conclusions taught by the WT. All it takes is an open mind and being reasonable and honest-hearted. I guess I have just been close-minded and unreasonable here. I have much soul-searching to do. :) Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
What we all fail to understand here is that the Wt doesn't wield any authority or control. The members have come to these conclusions on their own thru honest Bible reading and meditation. And then these people choose to congregate together.
ugghh

Reniaa
Is there a reason why those of us who have posted direct and relevant arguments against the WT injuction on its followers observing CHristmas and other holidays have gone unaswered by you? We have answered you directly. You have answered nothing directly. You have changed the topc multiple times, answered with irrelevant info, have taken numerous verses out of context. When called on this you tried the old "there are different takes on this verse.." on the very same verse you previously tried to use as a definitive proof text.
This is typical of a JW...highly typical...as is the 'short-term memory" where when you are proven wrong on a topic you try to shift to another. When drawn back to the original topic you try to pretend it is starting from scratch and bring up previous WT arguments previously knocked down. And when nothing else works you jump to the laundry list the WT told you about as to why only Jehovah's Witnesses have the truth.
Are you putting this time down on your service report?

Thats a sharp scarpel you want me to use but are you willing to use it on other major doctrines besides JW's could your add trinity/hellfire/saints to that list?
you added cross/stake and leolaia and I have argued that one through many pages and I still think that original wording is the winner everytime otherwise why even bother with the bible and lets not get onto the idolatry of the cross. (BTW let God strike me down but I use the same reasoning on tetragramation original wording will out, the doctrinal damage done by Lord in Old testament is far greater than any superstition and until a piece of NT is found earlier than what they currently have I think the NT position of his name the jury is still out).
Reniaa
The WT insists that they, and only they, have the correct view on the above-mentioned points. Some are quite debatable while on others the WT is flat out wrong- such as the insertion of Jehovah into the NT. They use 2-edged reasoning by saying we can surely trust the Bible due to the fact that critical analysis has shown it to be accurate...yet in the same sentence claim that the the Divine name has been successfully stamped out of the NT until the coming of the NWT.
Regarding the other doctrines- even IF the WT was correct (let's say trinity/hellfire/soul) they are not the only groups holding their stance.
I can firther point out that the WT is the ONLY ones who are wrong about blood. So where does that leave them?
