James-Woods- also door to door minstry is FREE publicity for the WT...and as you said a perfect guilt mechanism, where even if a JW doesn't do it they feel guilty, and probably compensate by donating more $$.

I highly doubt door to door ministry will be de-emphasized, and am almost positve JWs will not be encouraged to preach online. How would JWs be encouraged to preach via the internet???Forums?? Highly doubtful, especially with the fear the WT instills of apostates. The sentence regarding witnessing via the internet is just to draw attention away from the fact that the WT is in cost-cutting mode.

As a JW child, were you afraid to swallow your own blood?
by biometrics ingrowing up as a jw born-in during the 1980s i distinctly remember cutting my tounge.
i was afraid to swallow my blood, thinking that if i even swallowed one drop i woudn't make it to the new system.
so i kept spitting the blood out.

Yes, I swallowed my own blood when I had a cut in my mouth...but it felt strange. I always wondered if I was breaking "Jehovah's law on blood".

4/15 WT- WTS Doesn't Care about your Happiness- Just JW's Obedience
by flipper inbeen off the board for about 6 days or so battling a nasty bout of vertigo that hit me early this week.
at least my heads not spinning so i can think straight now to type a thread.
in this article titled, " maintain a complete heart towards jehovah " ( which should be called ' maintain a complete heart towards the wt society ) - wt society uses a lame illustration of a field laborer desiring family - yet missapplies this to jw's desiring " things of satan's world".. on page 15 it states, " a field laborer is busy plowing.

Mr FLipper, this makes me think of an illustration they gave at the assembly two weeks ago. (I did not go, my wife did, and my sister met her there for lunch, and happened to hear 15 minutes of BS from 12-12:15) The speaker first blasted higher education. then he warned not to miss meetings for work. Then he gave the following 'illustration":
Yes, it is important to support one's family. it can be compared to crossing a busy street. Sure, you need to be careful...but if you see a car way down the road you can go. You don't need to be so overly careful that you never cross the street. You don't need to be so concerned about supporting your family, or far-sighted in saving for the future that you let it get in the way of your spiritual activites..."
SOund familiar?

my father will be giving his first public talk shortly.
i was shocked by the audacity to be asked to come to his public talk, being told i don't have to believe or come back but can simply come to show my support for him.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and input. I just can't be an enabler in this...enforcing to my parents that I will bend for their beliefs when it is not a 2-way street. My attending his public talk serves no purpose. Its not that they want to see me- its that they want me at a JW meeting. There are 365 other days this year...and 22 more hours in the Sunday he gives his talk that we can do lunch or hang out.

NC, thanks for your thoughts...I agree completely. I do not see anything positive or beneficial from ym going.

Amazing, truly amazing how they have no problems asking others to compromise but will not bend at all.

mythreesons, they would not go to your sons' basketball games because it is, in JW world, extraciricular activites, worldly and competitive?

mythreesons, isn't it amazing that if I were to accept my dad's invite and then tell him, for instance, that in 2 weeks I will be giving my first sermon at a church and would like his presence- he doesn't have to beleive or convert, but can just sit there quetly and his presence would be support enough for me- he would not see the double standard or hypocrisy of his request. Amazing.

Undercover, they tried that trick to get me to go to the memorial 2 years in a row...one year my mom called me and told me I was going to the memorial and then afterward dad would take us all out to dinner. I replied that I would not be going to the memorial but would meet them for dinner afterwards. She said he would not want to do that. The next year, as my wife was getting ready to leave for the memorial she told me: "If you want to go I will wait for you." LOL What an invite- I declined. The next year my wife acted shocked i wasn't going and said: : "Don't you want to go out for dinner afterward." I said: "Fine, call me with the location and I will meet you for dinner." She said I have to go to the memorial if i wanted dinner. Declined. Then last year she said to me I should go to the memorial, its not that bad. LOL I said no thinak you.
