i may well be making my first visit to a place of worship since i da'd tomorrow.
my friend marion wants to go, and i have agreed, a little reluctantly i must admit, to accompany her for support.
the service we are planning to attend is at a baptist church near where we live, and is billed as a family service.

I also have had no desire to go to church since leaving the dubs, but then I never refused to go into a church when I was a dub. What? I was going to show that kind of disrespect to my grandfather when my grandmother died or miss my brother's wedding? Hell, no! I figured that if I had the big old truth, I could withstand an hour or so listening to a church service. LOL

She obviously had a different view of your relationship...and I'm not talking romantic or anything....like maybe she thought you were close friends. She also probably thinks that she does good work and isn't accepting that someone else doesn't agree. The bill for past work???? I'm thinking she either did some stuff as a perk..like maybe she was never going to charge you... and then decided to bill you for it out of anger when you fired her. Hostage records is a ploy to get her money, I assume, as well as more revenge. Nice mess.
I've only ever fired one person. She had self-imposed medical problems (abuse of prescription drugs I've been told), couldn't learn the job in a normal amount of time (most have the basics within a week, she was still barely able to ring a sale by herself after 6 weeks), made inappropriate sexual jokes to the customers and other employees, and would often have to go home, usually in tears, early. The most horrible person I've ever had to deal with. My father and the manager were in a state of ...gawd, I don't know what. I guess they were afraid she'd cry at them??? I finally got to the point where I couldn't take another day with her and when she called in to say her son had missed the bus again and she'd be late (again), I told her to go ahead and stay home....forever. Awful.
i wonder how this is effecting the morale of those mature ones still at bethel?

Actually, a lot of companies have NO problem getting rid of their older workers. They have to be careful about it or they'll get sued for trying to screw people out of some of their pension or whatever, but they still try. Its all about the money and older workers, in general, cost them more. More in pensions, health care, and higher wages. The Watchtower Bible and Crap corporation is the same...money is king. They are more fortunate, though, in that they don't have to follow the same rules as "normal" companies, being a non-profit, so they can spew some bullsh!t to their brainwashed slave-class about the great honor they are doing them by making them leave the place they've called home for decades to go preach the word while kicking their costly, old butts out onto the sidewalk. Praise Jah!
well, as some of you might remember, i took the great advice given me many of you, and got hubby to make travel plans with me!
we leave for copenhagen on sunday, then edinburgh on sept.22!
i will miss the board alot while wining and dining thru denmark and scotland, but look forward to catching up once back at home.

i think to be fair the gb should use the money they have collected from selling off thier property in brooklyn and offer a serverance package for those asked to leave after many years of service, $10,000 for every year of service would be good.

Oh, frankie, they aren't being laid off...nooooo, they're being reassigned to the velly important preaching work! So, yeah, they won't have their room and board comp'd and they'll somehow have to get jobs after years and years of servitutde to the WTS, but they can hack it...Jah will be with them and take care of their every need. Actually, I thought somebody posted that they'd heard that some of these displaced Bethelites would get a stipend of $500 a month to help them transition. Don't know if that was ever confirmed tho...also, don't remember if a time limit was mentioned.
i was musing about being a jw the other day.im not scarred by it like many,i dont hate anyone in my old cong..theres a couple of idiotic elders of course,but in the main my biggest thing when i think of my past life is the farsical nonsense of it all!.
meeting attendance,knocking on doors...oh dear.. one of the stupidest things was being required to do talks.i mean,come on who really used to listen to that drivel..i mean really listen?.
i was an ok speaker,nothing briliant,competent ..even gave a pub talk once when all the elders were on a jolly up at elders school.. it occurred to me how robotic bros and sis were when it came to giving praise!no matter how crap the talk was,one would always get a "i really enjoyed your talk brother".every time.without fail.i know they were being nice,i used to say it all the time too.my dad once said it to me and i asked him what he liked most about it?he admitted he didnt remember what it was even about.i dont remember in 30 years man and boy ever enjoying a talk.. yep,its a nonsense religion alright.full of braindead robots.. did anyone actually pay close attention and really enjoy the "food"from the platform?
I guess that's why they encouraged people to take notes. lol
I usually couldn't remember what had been said ten minutes after the talk was over. I used to feel pretty bad about that too...but not enough to take notes. Most of the talks I remember anything of now were either because the speaker was lousy, used some gross illustrations or made strong (usually inaccurate) statements. The rest, the competent talks, all just dissolved into the miasma of Jdubiness that permiated by brain during that time. Sometimes I feel like I was hypnotized for all those years.
I used to force myself (very shy) to go up and compliment the speaker too...hoping he wouldn't ask me about specifics as my mind would go blank. Such a sad little religion.
