I've seen something like this a couple of times with couples I've known....and, yeah, you can't force somebody to engage, they have to want it. Such a frustrating situation.

i really blew it yesterday.
we had just gotten home from a very long day and we were contemplating what to do for dinner and then a knock at the door.
the sister was back with an elder and he asked to speak to my husband...completely got his name wrong.
AFIN, I take exception to your attributing bad motives or cruel intentions to the posters who supported WG. Perhaps you sat in front of your monitor sneering and laughing at her, but I think you are a minority of one.
I can guarantee you that I was in no way laughing at WG, but at the situation and at the vision of the whole scene with the arrogant, pushy, self-righteous elder who dropped by without invitation or appointment and didn't even know how to pronounce the name of the person he was asking after.

Midwich, I saw it in the theater (where I couldn't easily get up and get a sandwich or something). I found it almost painful to watch, Nicholson's character was so unlikeable. It was almost deadly boring and oddly compelling at the same time. I still get a sort of icky feeling when I think of it because watching that movie felt like spying on someone and seeing all of the ugly little things that most of us would never want exposed. I didn't enjoy it, but the damned flick haunts me. LOL What does it mean?

i'm talking over 55 years of age that know the gb are frauds, but because they have no retirement benifits worth anything feel forced to hold on to this position.
man that has to be the worst drag ever.
remember to copy all secret corospondance to further expose the gb in thier under handed vicious treatment of its member they may come in very handy in the hands of prosecuting attorneys.
I think that's sad. Of course, I kind of avoided getting to know any DO or CO's, so I have very little idea of what they may "deserve" or not.
I know there was one CO out here who had to be pretty close to retirement age. He and his wife seemed like lovely people and I hate to think of them dumped like so much trash after the WTS had used them up. I got the impression that they would be living with their children once they retired. I hope it worked out for them.
The CO and his wife that I couldn't stand were the type of people to sock away contributions and make connections so that they were well taken care of. They are totally in it for the power and prestige and, I am convinced, know how to work the system for the maximum advantage to themselves.

I've got Xmen, Xmen2, Incredibles, Hellboy, Swordfish, Van Helsing, African Queen, Down With Love, National Treasure....I think that's all that I've watched relatively recently.
i have read in different threads, comments to the effect of married dub males as being despotic, tyrannical lords of their domain.
and i'm sure in many istances this is true.
i had never heard of men (family heads) referred to in such terms before i became a dub.
I thought Hazel was the head of the Baxter house. LOL
The congregations I was a part of had a mix. There were definitly households where the women ruled, some barely pretending that their husbands were the head. In others, the men were like petty tyrants. There was a third very tiny group where there seemed to be a partnership and those appeared to be the happiest marriages....its hard to tell, though, because JW's are masters of deception. What you see at the Hall very often has little to do with what's going on at home.
we are now the proud grandparents of a little boy.
our son and his partner had their baby on mr alw's birthday (bit ironic) - lovely birthday present.
both mum and baby are well and we are ecstatic!!!
