Slow news day indeed! LOL Maybe this is the network's nod to "positive" news. Yuck.

JW's on the news today
by freedom96 ini was watching tv a little bit ago, and they had a quick one minute total break showing the tropical storm, and then spent 30 solid seconds talking about the witnesses at the district convention this weekend in san diego.. they showed a few from the audience looking as bored as could be, and then showed some getting baptized.
i was very suprised they would take the time to show that.
as if anyone cares.

DC IN Kansas City -120 years stressed
by stillajwexelder inyet again because it was in the days text gen 6 vs 3 was discussed at the dc.
it -the talk -was started by stating that god puts a time limit on things and that in noahs day it was 120 years.
we are now 9w1 years into the time of the end since 1914. now 2034 was not directly mentioned but hell it was strongly implied and a gb member was present gerritt losch- so it looks as though statements like this have the wtbts approval.

Or perhaps they have learned all too well. Don't put an actual date down in writing. Don't have anybody actually say the year "2034". Hint around at it and let the dubs come to their own conclusions...then when the date rolls around, you can deny, deny, deny. In the meantime, you get those who are still true believers all fired up again.

Enter your lottery numbers here
by ballistic ini had this idea after reading the other thread about the lottery.
i've only done the lottery a few times ever and am always grossly over-optimistic that i will win, but here goes... .

LMAO @ you, ballistic. Big congratulations on becoming Supreme!
Sorry you didn't win the lottery. I would have liked a present.
I never play the lottery either, Sunspot. I look yearningly at all the colorful little tickets from time to time, but I get intimidated and confused by all the different games so pass it by. I did recently learn how to order coffee at Starbucks (almost as complicated as buying a lottery ticket), though, so maybe I'll take the plunge one of these days.

Thanks for the definition of "pants". I'd assumed something of the sort from the context, but I wanted to be sure.

Did you ever celebrate Christmas, and do you miss it?
by sonnyboy ini see so many people on this board who are angry over what the witnesses took from them.
i often feel the same way, so i try to do something anti-jw every year, which seems to help.
do you know what i'm going to do this year?

I didn't grow up as a JW so I celebrated Christmas until I was about 30. It was magical as a child, less than magical after I got married. My ex did not have good memories of the holiday from his youth (lots of drunken fights and such whenever they all got together), so he was extremely lukewarm about it all. Also, after we were married, we had NO extra money. Christmas became a financial burden, but instead of telling relatives that we'd prefer not to exchange gifts and just enjoy being together, we went into debt.
When the JW's came along, it was almost a relief. Not that I was happy about denying my children Santa and Christmas trees and gifts, but I was happy not to have to scrimp and save to buy mediocre presents for the rest of the family....stuff that I'm sure ended up in a closet or given away any how.
Now I'm looking forward to decorating a bit, enjoying the music and lights and having dinner with my son. I don't want to fall back into the gift-giving trap, but I am looking forward to the celebration of family and friends.

Presiding Overseer Says They Will Ask If You Still Want To Be A Jehovah's W
by minimus inthe local needs talk on thursday discussed a few different things, according to my mom.
but the one that stood out most was that he announced that based on the new book, the elders will be checking on those that have not been associating with the congregation for some time.
they will ask, "do you still want to be a jehovah's witness?

LMAO! Nice, Gumby!
I do understand the difficulty for those with family still in. It's easy for me to tell the WTS to take a flying leap over a bottomless pit because I don't; no close friends still in either. I hope there is a way to slide under the radar for those of you who are trying to avoid being cut off.
