  I'm not sure how far back people check here, but, yet another question- what if said husband is semi-famous in our region. Totally jw unrelated, would that also keep him in some sort of "special situation"? I understand the 'brownie point system. In fact I know more jw doctine than him!!! It annoys him no end. In fact I have given him page numbers, issue numbers, etc... but, yet he seems unwilling to look in their OWN library! So, I say, ok, I will buy them off ebay. Of course he doesn't like that idea either. I am so frustrated at the moment, I could spit nails! carla

  What about a situation like mine? Husband has been studying for about two years, not baptized, not in field service either, (me-not jw, never was, totally anti jw) however, during an argument he said "when he becomes an elder...." . How could he with a wife like me and worldly children? I have heard that they are running low on elders, but, would someone who can't even get his own family in really be considered? That means he would get even nuttier than he is now! I can hardly wait. carla

  Valid alternatives to the door to door preaching work?

  ok - so i had a talk/debate with a guy today who insists that he sees "nobody else talking about the end of the world" and that "the door to door work the jws perform is the best way to preach.

  this guy has a brother who is disfellowshipped.

  he has never been baptized, yet has an ongoing interest and believes the jws are a special people.

  Mormons around here also go door to door as well as some Lutherans awhile back. Personally, I like to give out the 'Cease and Desist' letter (how to get on the jw do not call list) to friends and family. It is good for one year. There is also one for Mormons as well. The early church certainly did not go door to door. It would not have been respectable, especially knocking on a womans door when a male relative wasn't around. It seems to me the wt never considers the cultural or historical backround in many of their doctrines. Not to mention that not all people are cut out for door to door work. We all have different gifts. What if someone is terribly shy or just can't articulate well enough, how does that reflect on the org? carla

  What is the most accurate translation....

  i have just read a couple of excellent booklets ordered from r watters freeminds site dealing with the tetragrammaton.

  the nwt seems to be an accurate translation of hebrew scriptures, and correctly reinstates an english alternative to the tetragrammaton.

  but they nwt new testament is wholly unacceptable (although the kingdom interlinear portoin seems excellent).

  I have the NASB/NIV Greek Parallel and a RSV from when I was little. It is interesting to see the Greek compared to the other versions as well as the KIT greek portion. Also see Witness Inc, they have some good stuff on translation and the tetragramatton. But, keep in mind I was never jw nor ever will be, so I see things a bit different than you. carla

  did the watchtower society ban jw's from owning handguns for self defence?.

  if they did, when did they issue the ban?.

  didn't some of jesus's apostles carry a sword when the group traveled, to protect agains wild animals and human thieves?

  I have found out that the chief of police in Dousman, WI has begun studying with the jw's. This worries me greatly due to the jw policy on pedophiles. I have tried to find an email for the police dept. but can't (online anyway). Maybe he is not aware of just how this will all affect him. ie-not carrying a gun, not turning in jw pedophiles etc.. How long do you think the hall will allow him to keep his job? Should someone send him something? from Silentlambs? C of C book? Any thoughts, thanks carla

  I am new here, not a jw, trouble with a spouse joining. It's been hell. kls, I am close to you in WI! I don't know how the pm thing works on here. Or how to give you my email without the husband finding me. Can you fill me in on how the pm thing works?

  Husband got involve about two years ago, I have been studying about the jw's for all that time. As you know it is not a pleasant situation, and has affected his relationships with everyone in the family.

  I am new here. I'm not a jw but husband has been studying with jw's for about two years now. This has pretty much destroyed our relationship, not to even mention what it has done to his relationship with his children. I'm sure the more miserable he becomes they will just tell him how 'right' they are. "See, you must suffer for jehovah". We do not know any jw's, family or friends. I have been trying to get him out these past two years. He is just now realizing that something is wrong with his relationship with his children. So, have I lost my mate as a direct result of the WTS? yes, just like the above post, we live in the same house. Where we used to have long conversations about everything under the sun, when we have conversations they usually end up in an argument and end up turning into a jw policy. Why should it be that way? Because jw's permeate every aspect of your life. carla
