  what would you say to someone who is going to be baptized soon, who does not understand the whole 1914 doctrine or even how it was arrived at?

  good grief, isn't there a test or something before they baptize someone?

  husband has agreed to explain the 1914 for me in writing, but when i said he needed to explain the 607 date as well, he didn't even know what i was talking about.

I will say trying to follow the 586/7/607 date threads here can be difficult. I do have the book by Carl Olaf Jonson and need to reread it. How can he even consider getting baptized into a religion (cult) when he doesn't even understand the main doctrine?! Even the redefining of 'generation' he doesn't understand the implications. Or the distress it has caused many jw's. He has no idea how 607 even relates to 1914, he hasn't even heard of it! He has been studying with jw's for two years! I am so frustrated, any suggestions? carla

  JWs thoughts on Hell

  the jws don't believe hell, as in the place where evil people are tortured for eternity, exists.

  they reason that a loving god would not send his own creation to be tormented for eternity.. yet on the flipside, the jws preach that in 1914 (yeah, you all know this arguement.

  ) there was a big war in heaven, and satan and all his creatures were cast down to earth.

  Use of the word jah?

  i have noticed on ex sites the use of the word jah in reference to jehovah.

  is this just a slang used by ex's or do active also use it?

  if active members use it, doesn't it seem a bit disrespectful then?

  How can Mother's Day be pagan? I thought it wasn't even a holiday until about the 1900's. A woman wanted to honor her 'good Christian Mother', for all she did for her. That's my take on it. Unless, my thinking is all off, of course, anyone not jw would be considered pagan I suppose. silly me. Happy Mother's Day all, carla

  Requesting books from UN libraries, etc?

  from time to time people mention getting books sent to them from un libraries or university libraries, etc.

  there are a couple of books i would love to get a hold of - or at least scans of a couple of pages sent to me.. is there a turorial or primer out there on how to go about doing this?

  or can someone point me to some help sections on their respective websites on how to do this?.

  JW working the obituaries

  i was reading my local paper this morning and there was a letter to the editor.

  the writer had recently lost a child and the child's obituary was recently printed in our paper.

  the writer said she received a letter with a "jehovah witness tract" called "what help for dead loved ones?

  Should JW's be trying to convert others to their faith?

  if you think about it, what happens if one of the persons in a marriage gets converted to the jw religion, while the other one chooses not to believe?

  or the husband is at work, and the wife gets to meet the jw at the door, has bible studies with them, gets converted, and then the husband wakes up one day and finds he is living with a jw mate.

  what happens if a jw couple is out in the field service, and one gets converted to another religion, precisely as a result of doing the kingdom field service work.. in all of these instances, it results in a religiously divided home.

  I know they should have left my marriage alone! I wonder just how many marriages have been destroyed or at the minimum seriously compromised because of this cult. Everyday I find more people in the same boat as myself. Just heartbreaking. carla

  Lucky Charms- I guess I have a mean streak in me, every now and again I will buy Lucky Charms just to see if husband will eat them!!! I don't think he knows about the Lucky Charms thing or other weird stuff. Lucky Charms now comes in chocolate! He usually eats the box himself, the kids ask, 'who ate all the cereal?' funny. carla
