Seeing as jah has decided it is ok to have beards now and women in Bethel Spain had pants on can women in US wear pants now?
In a few years this will all be forgotten and jw's will say it is all apostate lies that jw men couldn't have both a beard and 'privileges' at the same time. Or they will laugh it off and say, "yeah, there were some crazy beliefs at one time, we are progressive so we get new light!"

Were we really meant to live forever?
by Leathercrop inour capacity for adaptation (there's an official term somewhere) is apparently very vast.
meaning that whatever is a novelty always becomes old news and apparently it happens very quickly.
human beings in fact have to put a lot of effort into not discarding valuable things and relationships because of our overwhelming tendency to become incredibly used to it and just plain bored with them.

Well Sea Breeze I am more on your side of the fence than you know. Many of the likes on your posts were from me in fact. I am not necessarily a traditionalist Christian (if that is even a thing). I know my Redeemer Lives as will I. My God is Love and yes, I am a Trinitarian though some see things differently and the word itself has different meaning to different folks. I do not care for fire & brimstone type preaching and find it spiritually harmful. I still find the jw's and other cults (which can include churches) to be damaging to the soul. They will have much to answer for in my opinion.
I no longer feel it is my job or responsibility to get my jw out of his ungodly cult. It is the job of Christ & the Holy Spirit. I have planted the seed it is now up to God to water it or not I guess. I don't have all the answers and I like it that way. If one truly had the faith of a child they would not need the absolute answer to everything but simply put it at the Lord's feet and know all will be well. I simply don't see God, Jesus & Holy Spirit the way traditionalist necessarily do. God is not some white dude sitting on a throne waiting and watching to see us mess up and throw arrows at us. If God is our Father then how could He? How could I have more compassion than God? I couldn't therefore when I go home in the end I know all will be forgiven, it already has. Christ did that work upon the Cross for me.
That is my answer that I think you can understand from your Christian point of view. My answer to someone who sees spirituality in a non traditional biblical sort of way would be quite different and to be honest I do not think there are too many folks on this board who could wrap their heads around that answer so I am not even going to go there.
You might not see that there could be 2 answers that sound like they would be opposed to each other though they are not opposed at all. I think almost everybody (churches, cults, etc...) put God in a little box when God (who has no gender but simply is God) is so very much bigger than what they think.
As for living forever on Earth? I don't recall a scripture that specifically says that. Why would one want to? Do you not understand how very vast the universe is? Don't you want to see some of that? Maybe we will travel in our soul body? who knows? guess we will all find out at some point or not.
If being dead is dead, not being conscious then none of this matters anyway does it? Now, if we get to go on and continue to learn and live things we cannot even imagine then.... "wow, wow, oh wow" as Steve Jobs said as he was dying.

If you believe you are a spiritual being having a human experience you will not fear death at all. I don't. I look forward to what comes next. I realize I am probably one of the few on this board to believe this. My jw cannot wrap his head around my view either. In fact he says I am lying. I am in no hurry at the moment to go nor do I look forward to the actual process of dying but afterwards? I am quite looking forward to that!

Nobody else understands
by ElderBerry inif you once were fully pimi and truly believed jw doctrine to the core like i once did, when you come to the reality that it is not the truth at all it can be extremely devastating.. i think only other ex jws could ever understand.
i wasted my entire life i thought the real life was yet to come to wasted the best years knocking on doors.
now i’m so angry.. i can understand why so many top themselves when they realise it was all lies..

As a ubm I can tell you that no nonjw's can understand when a loved one joins the jw's either. They must really love the jw to take the time to understand jw-ism and read C of C and other 'apostate' type jw stuff. Of all my family only my (the spouse) family would listen and learn about jw's. I had a friend who came to love a person in a biker group and he was able to leave only while under the watch of law enforcement (not allowed to fraternize with other felons) and we bonded due to the biker group being so similar to jw's. Kind of like blood in blood out mentality (see gangs for reference). In the end he choose the organization over her just like many jw's do. It was surreal when we chatted and the similarities between her loving a true biker (even among law enforcement) and jw's it blew my mind. This all came from someone who was in law enforcement, new the system, etc...
Most non jw's think jw's are just a quirky Christian group which could not be further from the truth. Isn't it odd that after all these years of knocking on door all people really know about jw's is that they don't salute the US flag, no holidays and possibly no blood? after all these years and that is all that is really known by mainstream people.

I hate the way they talk.
by Riley inwhat is with the jw cadence when they speak.

@ Sea Breeze, yes! jw speak and the glassy eyes. Nobody would believe me when mine first joined the cult that his speech, mannerisms and even eyes would change when speaking sometimes. Then the kids also commented on it and if he tried to preach to someone in the family they finally saw it, or at least some did.
If he started with that weird creepy jw smile and speech patterns I sometimes wanted to smack him one and say, "get a hold of yourself man!" lol, never did though.
It was scary when he first joined the cult and had all these changes, clothing, hair, speech, time away from family, no holidays, tv, physically running away when something might be a no-no and even sitting differently. Not to mention his relationship with his wife, children, in laws and even the dog! I could go on but you get the idea.

Threads With New Posts/Replies
by IWant2Know ini'm relatively new here, and i would like to see threads that have new posts or replies in them bumped up to the top of the forum.
because recently, someone asked me a question in a thread, but i answered their question with a question.
and after being away from the forum for about a week, i haven't looked at that thread for their answer because i forgot what thread it was in.

Why don't you simply click on 'latest' or click on your name and then click on 'see topics posted on'? take some time to look around the site and see how it works.
For instance; I clicked on your name and see you joined 23 days ago, started 8 topics (threads) and posted (responded) 79 times as of early Sunday morning of the 10th.
