...and yet one more thread about the Book Study...
by undercover ini just had an epiphany of sorts.... i've been of the opinion that the change to the book study arrangement was all about control.
controlling the subject matter discussed at book studies; controlling the atmosphere of free-thinking comments or, *gasp* questioning type comments from apostate-leaning attendees.. but what if this is just the beginning of the society and the jws trying to become more mainstream?
what if they're looking to re-invent themselves into a more moderate religion, dropping meeting nights, eventually dropping meetings, maybe even dropping field service.

I posted this on JCanon's thread - I think the FS will need to be adjusted because of the BS change. I think, possibly, that's why THIS change is not being immediately enforced, as the Org needs from now until January to somehow change the FS arrangement. The reason (I gave on other thread) is that without the 'informal' atmosphere of the BS (which I'm sure most JWs are comfy with), the only 'informal' gathering left is FS meetings (in private homes), and human nature, being what it is, will overcompensate for the 'missing' socialising....hope you're following me, lol...and this would be damaging for the Org.
I think the WT is afraid of itself AND its members (locally, I know of JWs who are taking college courses in 'internet use'), not 'apostates'...it's a case of ''Divide and Conquer''

Conversation with my JW mother (arghhhh!!!) Need advice
by littleblueuk inso last week when i casually mentioned the bs being cancelled, she was like, oh, no, they'd never do that.
i asked her if she would be upset with it and she said she would, it was her favorite one.

You need advice? Lol, I think you did marvellously (is that a word?)...love the Beth Sarim thing..
It went no where. I did say that I would have a Bible study ONLY from the Bible though. No other books. She said she could get someone to do it...should I take the bait or bite more holes in my tongue????
They're really not qualified to 'study' the Bible, we all know it is only used in support of WT literature...I'd be surprised if anyone would be willing to give you a 'Bible' study...it's all about promoting the WT's Word, not God's.

meanness of the Gibbering Buddy
by hamsterbait inthe governing body, has seen fit to lovingly dump the separate book study.. on the grounds of fuel costs???.
the beth-hellites who have posted here showed how annointed brothers ripped them off for a gas contribution if they got a lift to the kingdumb hell.. gas is still a fraction of what it is in europe, but they didn't bother their sorry a$$es about how much a french or british fambly had to spend.. for decades they knew how pregnant africans waded through crocodile infested swamps - that was no reason to cancel either.. the "climax " book suggests that the clergy of christendom become concerned about world conditions because now their winecellars are threatened.. how different are the gibbering buddy - moving out of new york, not just because of fear after 9/11, but to make a disgusting profit on property bought with our money.. hb.

....of course it's about control...but if fuel prices have risen so much, and it's going to take more petrol (therefore money) to get to KH etc, then that's LESS money in the contribution box...

Gas my A$$
by writerpen inthey only reason they have put this big change on the cost of fuel is so that they can easily come back in a year or two - just when they think this wasn't such a good idea and they're losing even more control - and say that, "well, fuel isn't as expensive now, so let's start meeting again for the book study.

TURIN SHROUD/ Has anyone found a faith after leaving??
by chuckyy inhi.. ive recently been reading some really interesting stuff about the turin shroud, how it could be authentic after all, and the evidence that points to its authenticity.
of course, this gives me reason for thinking that "what if the gospels are true after all?
has anyone else here looked at the subject of the turin shroud??.

Hamsterbait, I posted my calculations on another thread...
Petrol prices here in England are extortionate...£1.15 (up to £1.30) per litre is maybe average....that's £5.23 per gallon...which is $10.38 per gallon.
I think they're pre-empting recovering the fuel costs in way of contributions.

You know what IP_SEC...I remember walking to the Memorial (with a young child in a pushchair) as no one would give me a lift (because I wasn't a regular attender)...I was very young, and lived over a mile from the KH, which was uphill from my house.
