Snakes - I've found that JWs disregard the feelings of 'Worldly' people because as their persecutors they must be insensitive. Is Sister Naive miffed about the Congregation losing a 'marriageable brother' ? - there are never enough to go around anyway, lol. Best wishes and congratulations to you and the future Mrs Snakes.

Why is it that JWs can toss around insults like "Worldly" when talking about non-JWs? (Fiancee got offended).
by SnakesInTheTower inso yesterday i get this telephone call from a jw sister.
let's call her sister naive.
i knew sister naive when she was a teenager, knew her ex-husband when he and i were growing up in the congo.

Clever ploy to get sisters to monitor husband's internet use in today's WT
by Mickey mouse inin today's study watchtower there was, yet again, more demonization of the internet.
although the paragraph purported to be about guarding against pornography, it struck me that they are attempting to kill two birds with one stone here, without mentioning one of the birds by name.
here's a scan, check out paragraph 15:.

It's all about controlling internet usage. Suggesting 'chaperoning' as a safeguard against viewing pornography justifies 'supervising' to the R&F. In reality, though, the WT is saying 'don't trust your partner alone on the internet'. They know that the Internet is a threat to the Org, and they can't forbid JWs to access it, so I think they're using the family unit to restrict what is being accessed (their best option at the moment).

this is a thread to anull our baptisium...
by highdose ini'll start:.
the borg makes a big deal out of the fact that everyone choses of their own free choice to be baptised, so on that same basis i see no reason why i can't chose to anul it.. i highdose here by anull my baptisium to the borg on the basis that:1) i had been both brain washed and pressured in to doing it 2) i did not understand what i was joining 3) i was a child 4) i never said my baptismal vows anyway 4)had i waited till i was adult i would never have gotten baptised.. therefore my baptisum is invaild ( not worth the paper its written on so to speak) i never was a jw, i'm not now and i don't intend to be ever in the future.. ...there that feels alot better!
would anyone care to join me?.

WT Baptism is merely a contract with the WT Org. Under the (real) Law, contracts with minors are (mostly) illegal, to protect their lack of maturity, and therefore cannot be enforced. Therefore, in my opinion, because WT Baptism is not a binding contract when performed on minors, it is annulled by definition.

Exposing their duplicity
by Mickey mouse ini thought i would have a go at writing to a journalist about the jehovah's witness shunning policy.
i sent this to stephen bates, the religious affairs correspondent for the guardian (he wrote the story about the wt and the un back in 2001).. i have no idea if it will result in anything but here it is:.
dear mr bates,.

Well I like it ...there's enough scandal attached to the WT for Stephen Bates to do a weekly article. Fingers crossed for a quick response!

What really matters to the elders- Podcast 9 Judicial Hearing

I only managed to listen to first 16 minutes ( sound a tad quiet then PC froze...sheeesh)..
Jehovah's Witnesses are forbidden from entering into these judicial hearings with a legal representative or with an impartial by-stander....etc
Why are they so worried about legal representatives (or some sort of impartial support)? Is it because they're unsure of the legality of these sort of hearings? What's David's day job...lol? It amazes me that people will are so willing to be 'witnesses' to condemn someone in a pretend trial (which it 'sounded' like - did one chap say something about being 'addressed through the chair'...?) - dunno how they could look you in the eye

I feel so discouraged
by mouthy inthat micheal jacksons kids are being raise in the wt.
how very,very sad.
i am so upset about that..
-
MidwichCuckoo
Don't feel too discouraged Mouthy. MJ's oldest kids are 12 and 11, and any sudden JW indoctrination would probably fail miserably. They've already gone through the 'informative' years in a different environment (although I do appreciate that being recently bereaved they are vulnerable BUT they do have each other).

I'd be interested to know the ages of the 50 baptised...and how many were there with their parents, lol
An estimated 8,000-plus people will attend each day, injecting more than £1 million into the local economy.
Hotels, bed and breakfast establishments, restaurants and shops will all benefit from the economic spin-off
Interesting.

SHOULD JWS PLAY FOOTBALL?
by badboy ini understand that it originated as an aztec war game, therefore should jws play football?.
-
MidwichCuckoo
I UNDERSTAND THAT IT ORIGINATED AS AN AZTEC WAR GAME
Actually, I wasn't aware of that - but didn't the WT object to chess on similar 'thinking'?

SHOULD JWS PLAY FOOTBALL?

It depends on the current WT thinking on 'competitive sports'...or maybe considering football (I'm assuming you're referring to soccer here Badboy...us being Brits an all, lol) as a future career (I'm thinking David Beckham here, lol). I don't think anything more than schoolboy soccer would be encouraged.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions regarding "attention seekers"?
by BonaFide inwe all love it when people pay attention to us or our opinions.
but what i am talking about is people who crave and force attention from others.
not just people who talk a lot, but those that force everyone around them to focus on them and them only.. in one of my classes there is a woman who raises her hand to ask a question, but never really has a question to ask.

I have look at a few sites, yes set Jw sites are closed to only Jw's
Yep - because JWs are forbidden to think independently of the WT. Even forbidden to read the Bible alone.
Even it's official name invites the perception that witnesses will be on it to talk to and get a witness pespective.
Yep, and any JW stumbling upon this site realising the opinions of the majority, would simply click out and promptly forget it.
I'll be honest most pro-witnesses are put off by this site simply because you have to deal with constant personal attacks outside of your viewpoints.
Really? Pro-witnesses are PUT OFF because they don't want to hear any opinion about the WT that differs from their own. I think you're TOTALLY missing every point nearly EVERY poster has made. The majority of people here were JWs - many since before you were even a twinkle in your father's eye...and you totally disrespect them. IF you believe that you can 'save lurkers' then you must be very afraid that the TRUTH about the WT can be found on this forum.
People like Mary, isaac and outlaw add very little to debates other than to character assasinate me, is that good for these forums? Am I to blame because they want to keep drawing personal attention to me just because I do not agree with them?
My opinion - you are going way tooooo far. I suspect you've never actually READ any of Mary's threads (maybe you're only interested in seeing your own words on a post?), but she has a gift for writing (Mary, I've never told you, but you've made me smile - and educated me - sooo many times - I did request a copy of your 'book' but...) - perhaps you're jealous of her gift or popularity? The same as the other day, offending Mouthy (and not for the first time)...does it grieve you that she is loved and respected? Just wondering...
