15. The last of my peer group. My friend was 12. And I'll never forget Paul Gillies' ''spin'' on an 'interview' on TV - quote:- 'we only baptise as adults'.

How many of you were baptised at a young age?
by lepermessiah inone thing this site has made me reflect on the baptism practice in jw land.. many of us were raised in the religion, thus you were given the pressure early on to shoot for baptism as a goal.. i remember feeling bad because i waited until the ripe old age of 14 to take the plunge.. looking back, i realize that when i was 14, i didnt even know what my favorite color was, let alone have enough knowledge to make a life altering decision.
yet, growing up in that climate, i would say anyone who waited past their early teens to get baptised was viewed with great suspicion and was likely to be viewed as "bad association".
kids who took the dip at 8-9 years of age were viewed as "wise beyond their years" and the like.. how old were some of you when you were baptised, and what are your feelings on the matter?.

A "Brother" wore a WT logo tie tack today
by JerkhovahsWitless inafter the meeting, a few people came up to show me some fake love like the wt lesson instructed (this is my 4th meeting in a row in over a year of not going, yuck!!).
i noticed one of them was wearing a tie tack of the watchtower logo.
its ok to idolize, by wearing, the corporate symbol of a worldwide multi-billion dollar company, but a cross is wrong?

It's occured to me for a while now, that as the WT may need to get revenue from alternative sources, they may bring out a range of ''appropriate'' clothes (only available from the Org, of course) - which will be marketed as both 'modest' and as identifying JWs as 'separate' from World. And, Farkel, I'm sure they'll 'Bible-base' it, lol.

Were You Afraid To Talk Out Loud For Fear The Demons Might Hear You?
by minimus ini know of many witnesses that were petrified that if they spoke about something out loud, the demons.
i swear jws think the demons.

Not talking generally - but I was told not to pray out loud or Satan would hear, AND he can also lip-read, so extra caution needed to be taken when praying alone.

Letter from WT's Haiti Branch Committee re: Society's relief response
by Dogpatch injust got this in, don't know if it was mentioned here yet, but this illustrates how the watchtower views/responds to emergencies.
note the dig on university and "higher education" (especially sad for a poor country like haiti with poorly educated masses).. randy.
it was a terrifying moment for all!

First of all if you had family in Haiti wouldn't you send them help first? It isn't that you don't care immensely for all the others there facing untold challenges. You would help your family and then send whatever means you had to help everyone else. Witnesses view eachother as family.
Hello mdavis . While I agree that in a disaster our own family would be our prime concern, and once we had confirmed their safety I believe that the correct and Christian thing to do - the HUMAN thing to do - would be to assist anyone who needed help, while keeping an eye out for any 'brothers' or 'sisters'. As for JWs viewing each other as family, lol...I know JWs who couldn't be bothered to even walk 100 yards to visit/help 'their family' when they're sick...

Our 'Mediator'?
by MidwichCuckoo inthis has probably been touched on before - but something that's on my mind.
have i got this correct...?
jesus said, 'no one comes to the father except through me' - and jws always pray to god through jesus.

designs - yes (if I understand you correctly), I agree. Yet the WT is saying to the R&F that they are (basically) not 'worthy' of communicating through Jesus, and despite what is written in the Bible, it is not for them but just for an elite group within the Org- the WT interpreting the Bible, and Jesus' words, to its own ends and thus 'depriving' its members of a closer relationship with God (just as they accuse the Catholics). Jesus, of course, is NOT limited just on the instruction of mere men - and it's arrogant of the GB to promote this thought.

Thanks for your responses .
So the proper ending of a JWs prayer would be "in the name of Jesus Christ, through the Governing Body, amen".
Yes teel - that is my thinking. Why haven't they realised that IF Jesus is not their mediator (by their own 'rules'), then it is pointless praying through him..? Why aren't they questioning it..? It won't be long before they incorporate the above into prayers, and then just eliminate Jesus in favour of the GB as the only 'channel' through which they pray.
I agree with you Judge, that the Bible was written for ALL, not a handful of self promoted 'elite'. I've many times heard JWs criticise Catholic leaders(''noooo, never, surely not'', I hear you say, lol) for reading the Scriptures in Latin so the congregation are unable to share. The WT is doing exactly the same.

This has probably been touched on before - but something that's on my mind. Have I got this correct...? Jesus said, 'No one comes to the Father except through me' - and JWs always pray to God through Jesus. However, if as I have now 'understood' for some time, that the Bible is written solely for The 'Remnant', and that Jesus is only THEIR Mediator, then does God not hear the prayers of anyone else praying through Jesus? Are JW prayers (along with everyone elses') redundant?
I'd appreciate your feedback.

Any Ideas on the Next "Big Thing" that Will Bring the Watchtower Down?
by jamiebowers ini received this via a face book pm from the group christian witness fellowship:.
also near the end of the show, richard rawe says "something extra big" is about to happen that will take watchtower "down," something bigger even than their pedophile scandal and the u.n. connections scandal put together.
he says he can't spill the beans yet, but the something is definitely coming.

I hope it's something to do with their 'charity' status - as (in my opinion) they make a mockery of the word 'charity'.
