Un-scriptural & Non-biblical JW terms
by ljwtiamb inafter a recent 'spiritual' discussion with a relative, it hit me that so much of the jw terminology is not to be found anywhere in the bible or, at best is taken totally out of context.
yet, it's by these terms & titles that jws approve and condemn each other, the entire world, and worse believe that god even cares!.
i can just imagine someone at the pearly gates, explaining to peter: 'yeah, but i was a "pioneer!".

Counsel by school overseer...
by in a new york bethel minute inwhat was your worst point of counsel?
i think for most men, it was gesturing to an audience while trying to make it look natural.
i remember writing on my notes to gesture and to speak slowly... what was your hardest point of counsel to work on?.

Where did things go wrong?
by ljwtiamb inare certain boes and their application of principle the problem?.
were jws ever on the right track?.
are the gbs the source of all the org troubles?.

Things started to "go wrong" shortly after the Apostles died. Paul tried to prepare the early disciples for this event.
What we see today in the churches are the barnacles which have grown for 2000 years over the teachings of the Christ making them unrecognizable to most church going Christians.

Meek Shall Inherit the earth
by golden age in.
i was talking to a witness the other day and i was explaining from revelation how there is only one calling to heaven and there is not an earthly calling.
and the jw asked me to explain the verse from pslam which states teh meek shall inherit the earth and reside in it forever, any one have any scripture to refute his argument.

Leolaia,
You are correct. The Levites were not given a tribal inheritance but rather the right to have homes and pastures in cities scattered among the other 12 tribes. The land of Israel was divided only 12 ways, not 13. Levi was not given a tribal inheritance but he was given homes and pastures in order that when the priests were not serving at the Temple they could have sustenance though having no tribal land inheritance. Levi's inheritance was Jehovah not a large tract of tribal land. A home with pastures does not equate with the tribal lands inheritance.
I think it's foolish to discount the pattern set in the OT, imo.

Leolaia,
There were 12 tribes who received a land allotment. Was the tribe of Levi one of them?

What are the qualifications to get into Bethel?
by tyler m ini confirmed from a reliable source that my brother will be going to bethel.
we have no contact.
what requirements do you have to meet for this "honor"?
-
Daytona
To qualify for Bethel you have to be someone who puts the Governing Body above God and his Son, on paper at least. On paper, you must either be a pioneer or have a skill they desperately need. You must also have the recommendation of your PO or another qualified upper class ass kisser. A well placed Dad works too.

A feeling of community
by logansrun infor bettor or worse -- and it definitely seems it was worse for some here -- the witness religion provides a sense of community for it's members.
humans are social creatures; we evolved to be part of a community.
there are practical, emotional, intellectual and, if you want to use the word, spiritual, benefits to having some sense of group belonging.

There are some souls searching for community who must face the fact that there is no community for them.
It's when they face that wall, accept it and climb it, that they then find peace.

Ancient Israel had landed peoples it also had a priesthood which did not own lands. The general population of Israel lived on the land, the priesthood served in the Temple and when not in the Temple lived with their families in their assigned cities. All Israelites, general landed population and unlanded priesthood lived in the nation of Israel, a nation made by God. A kingdom of God.
So too, the coming kingdom of God. It too will have a population of peoples who will live on the land and those who will serve from time to time in the Temple. Jesus words referred to this arrangement, imo.
In addition, the concrete term (the earth) should not be defined by the lessor concrete term (kingdom of heaven). All the universe can be called the kingdom of heaven, even the planets and stars....but the earth is only one, the earth.

Narkissos,
What do you think Jesus meant by the words "the meek will inherit the earth?"
That is a plain statement, nothing ambiguous about it.
Or are we to discard all things JW simply because they are JW regardless of what Jesus said?
