Please don't confuse "regular" Christianity with cultic Christianity. There are abuses of power in all aspects of life, not just in the church. Unfortunately, the majority is often judged by the actions of a few. Anyway, this site focuses primarily on JWs. The WTS use mind control techniques that are detrimental to individuals. Most other Christian denominations don't use "information control", "time control", "relationship control" among others to manipulate there members.

Scriptures You Will Not Hear At The 2-04-06 Church Sermon.
by scout575 in"for moses said unto the fathers, "a prophet ( jesus - verse 20 ) shall the lord your god raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me, him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.
and it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

JamesThomas,
If God allowed evil people into heaven, people like Hitler, murderers, theives, etc., wouldn't heaven end up just like earth is now? I don't believe that God takes any pleasure in condemning anyone to hell. It's a necessity for the benefit of those who accept God's way out of this mess we humans are in now. I don't know why it has to be that way. There is so much that we don't know yet and will never know until we get to heaven.
I believe it to be pure arrogance and pride to refuse God's way of escape. It's like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

The "Memorial" Is A Perversion Of Christ's Intent
by metatron init is remarkable how 6 million witnesses ( or is it 'witlesses'?
) can go thru the yearly ritual of the "memorial" without any of their.
brain cells moving them towards understanding what a sad, unchristian perversion it is.. what part of "do this in remembrance of me" is so hard to understand?

The JW event is not a memorial of Jesus death or last supper. It's an organized annual rejection of Jesus.
This is exactly the way I see it. Very Very sad.

That's a classic example of attempting to force prophecy! That's the "self-fulfillment" part! Nothing "miraclious" about it! What would have been a miracle is if god had kept his promise and they had never LOST the land! Time indefinite my ASS!
I do believe that the promise to keep the land was conditional on the Jews remaining faithful to God, which they did not and of course they were expelled twice.
Joshua 1:7-8
6 "Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.
7 "Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go.
8 "This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.
Joshua 24:20-28
20 "If you forsake the LORD and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do you harm and consume you after He has done good to you."
21 The people said to Joshua, "No, but we will serve the LORD."
22 Joshua said to the people, "You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen for yourselves the LORD, to serve Him." And they said, "We are witnesses."
23 "Now therefore, put away the foreign gods which are in your midst, and incline your hearts to the LORD, the God of Israel."
24 The people said to Joshua, "We will serve the LORD our God and we will obey His voice."
25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made for them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
26 And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God; and he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.
27 Joshua said to all the people, "Behold, this stone shall be for a witness against us, for it has heard all the words of the LORD which He spoke to us; thus it shall be for a witness against you, so that you do not deny your God."
28 Then Joshua dismissed the people, each to his inheritance.

I thought that the prophecies at least ought to be given some consideration. So I dug out the Reasoning book and looked up the "messianic" prophecies.
I wouldn't use anything the WTS put out for legitimate research. Here is a good website that deals with the Messianic prophecies:

But in so far as the prophecy of the Jews returning to Iserial in modern times, I'm afraid I don't follow. I know Jesus talked about Jerusalem being destroyed, but where does it say that it will be rebuilt afterwards. While I agree that Iseral is still in Jerusalem, they are the most target group in the world for hate crimes and terroism, does that mean they are the true religion?
Secular history has shown that Jerusalem was destroyed by General Titus (I believe), in 70 AD. Not many years later all the Jews were dispersed from the rest of Israel. Since that time several "empires" have ruled over Israel, but the Jews had migrated all over the world. The Jews began to return in the mid to late 1800's in what is known as the Zionist Movement. At that time Israel was ruled by the Ottoman Empire (Turkey). As a result of losing WWI, the Turks lost the region containing Israel and the British gained control. To make a long story short, the British gave part of Israel to the Jews and part to the Palestinians. This is the cause of the Israeli - Palestinian conflict of today.Anyway there are numerous scriptures that predicted that the Jews would be dispersed from Israel and return in the last days. Some of these scriptures describe the Jews buying back land, farming, etc. A good site for more Biblical info: http://www.aboutbibleprophecy.com/ A few examples:
Amos 9
11
"In that day I will restore David's fallen tent. I will repair its broken places, restore its ruins, and build it as it used to be,
13
"The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman and the planter by the one treading grapes. New wine will drip from the mountains and flow from all the hills.Micah 7
8
Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.
9
Because I have sinned against him, I will bear the LORD's wrath, until he pleads my case and establishes my right. He will bring me out into the light; I will see his righteousness.
10
Then my enemy will see it and will be covered with shame, she who said to me, "Where is the LORD your God?" My eyes will see her downfall; even now she will be trampled underfoot like mire in the streets.
11
The day for building your walls will come, the day for extending your boundaries.Zechariah 8
12
"The seed will grow well, the vine will yield its fruit, the ground will produce its crops, and the heavens will drop their dew. I will give all these things as an inheritance to the remnant of this people. -

When I was first coming to grips with the fact that I thought the Bible was a load of fairy tales, I thought that the prophecies at least ought to be given some consideration. So I dug out the Reasoning book and looked up the "messianic" prophecies. One by one I looked these buggers up and read them in the Bible. I found that they weren't prophecies at all, just words yanked out of context and applied to Jesus. The maiden giving birth, the garments divvied up, no bones broken, no reed will he crush. It's all crap. None of it was meant to indicate someone was coming along later, it had meaning then, when it was written. Someone came along later and tried to apply those scriptures to their Jesus, but that's not at all the same thing.
Not exactly a failed prophecy, more of a fraudulent attempt to strangle "prophecy" out of a very big book. Not hard, really. Look at all the ways the writings of Nostradamus get applied.
The prophecies about Jesus were not "yanked out of context". It's clear that many are referring to the Messiah. Consider the odds:
http://www.messianic-prophecy.net/
I find it interesting that people are all to quick to dismiss Biblical history but they have no problem believing whatever any secular historian tells them. How do we know that the Roman Empire really existed? None of us were there to see it.

If a person wishes to explain away fulfilled prophecy they can by using any variety of broad logical arguements, as you have done in your 1st post. Fact is that the Bible is very clear about the Jews returning to Israel after a worldwide dispersion.
Examples (there's many more of those) Here is a good site that goes into more detail: http://www.aboutbibleprophecy.com/
Isaiah 43 5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west.
6 I will say to the north, `Give them up!' and to the south, `Do not hold them back.' Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth--Jeremiah 23
3 "I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring them back to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and increase in number.
4 I will place shepherds over them who will tend them, and they will no longer be afraid or terrified, nor will any be missing," declares the LORD.
Ezekiel 20
34 I will bring you from the nations and gather you from the countries where you have been scattered--with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with outpoured wrath. -

For those of us who believe in the rapture (1 Thess. 4:15-17 )
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
Those who are in Christ at the rapture, will be taken up to heaven to escape the tribulation, then return for the 1000 year reign with Christ.
This site explains it quite well:

Easy He moves His throne to the earth.
God will move His throne to earth, but only after the 1000 year reign of Christ.
