Thanks Randy and Tom and all of you others for such a great share.
I left the org in 1977 before the sh!t hit the fan a few years later. I didn't know that till I started browsing here some three years ago. Yes, those were the pre-internet days.
I was aware of some of the Bethel problems in the late 50's from someone who worked there for nearly two years till a medical problem forced him to leave. After voicing my aspirations to this then-best friend, this veteran cautioned, "no, Lenny, you don't want to go there".
Ironically, he's the other grandfather of my grandchildren whom I've never seen face to face, or played with, or hugged.
Based partly on this thread, I hope my two grandsons ask this other granddad about his Bethel experiences. I hope that this current elder gives them similar advice to what he gave me more than 50 years ago. If not, and when they get old enough and still aspire to working at Bethel (despite their current worker purge) I can see that such an experience could help open their eyes -- turning into more of a negative than a positive for them.

Many thanks to Cabasilas and Bereanbiblestudent for their hard work in making these available for us!
Hear here and Amen to that. Not to hijack this thread but our friend Atlantis needs a round of applause as well. He contributes his share of thankless work.

Cell phone antennas, boosters -- do they work? Expensive?

Wife's cousin lives down our road where there is no AT&T signal, normally. We went down to their house last night so he could show us his new setup. His hardware is from CellAntenna.com and consists of a 33 ft coax cable connected to a little special antenna that he affixed to his old TV antenna pole outdoors.
Indoors, this cable runs to a lightning arrestor which leads to a small box which leads to a larger box that emits amplified signals.
While in his living room, where this box is located, we had 3 to 5 bars on our cell phones. The transmission from this booster does not reach outdoors, only within his home.
All well and good. I'm sold. We should run out and buy this stuff, right? The kicker is the price -- some $450 for all this hardware.
He claims he's tried the cell phone attached antenna but has gone through some 5 phones since January. He thinks that attached antenna was the culprit by damaging the phones.
Have you any experience with any antennas or boosters for your cell phone?

Witness work at 2 a.m.?
by Fatfreek ina non-jw friend in a southern state has close ties to a jw with a late teen-aged son.
this son is pioneering during late hours, meaning 11 pm to 2 am.
i'm told his car group calls on, among others, convenience store workers where they apparently have much idle time on their hands.

My first thought on reading this was that he's feeding his mom a line about where he is late at night, but I'm sure that's overly cynical.
That's gone through my mind as well. I mean, how many convenience stores are there in an area? To call on a enough to fill 3 hours that may run the gas bill up.
Other than convenience stores and 24 hour gas stations, what's left?

Is this just a local instance or is it practiced nationwide? Len

Guided by Delusions of Granduer 2009 District Convention program
by Not Feeling It init was sent by a rampant, serial-emailing, hardcore jw.
i didn't see copies on a half-assed 1-minute search.
so sorry if this is a duplicate post.. should be called "guided by voices" in my opinion as a subtle truism and tribute to a nifty band.. -- not attending it.

Elders supposed contact DF&DA once every year???!!!???
by Quotes ini was speaking to my mom on the phone yesterday, and despite my trying to avoid it, we got to talking about wacky jw topics -- again.
actually, it was nearly unavoidable, since she had just returned from her summer convention.
aside: nice way to celebrate your wedding anniversary, mom & dad; at an assembly!

A WT article was quoted in its entirety on the second page of this thread. A key statement of that article follows:
*** w91 4/15 p. 22 par. 11 Imitate God’s Mercy Today ***
It would not be fitting even for elders to take the initiative toward certain expelled ones, such as apostates, who ‘speak twisted things to draw away the disciples after themselves.’ These are ‘false teachers who are trying to bring in destructive sects and to exploit the congregation with counterfeit words.’So this is where they draw the line which they don't want their elders to cross -- apostates. Let's say you've DA'd. Well, to them, you've crossed the line by submitting a letter stating all your objections to being part of their flock. You've, in essence, attempted to teach them your way of thinking, you wicked apostate!
They are rightly scared witless (pun intended) by apostates. Their leadership and followship places their tail between their collective legs when they see you around -- a mall, parking lot, coffee shop. They want nothing to do with your thinking.
DF'd sheeples are something else. Perhaps they stopped smoking or drinking or such, but never expressed negativity toward WT teachings. Those are the targets for annual return visits by the elders.
As we've seen by many experiences here, most elders appear chicken to do even this menial duty.
Len
ps: I've said this before and it bears repeating. The WT wants you to DA yourself if you think contrary to them . This allows them to place a virtual fence (shunning) around you to protect their remaining membership. By simply fading (my choice if I were to do it over) you are a threat to the flock as you could discreetly make your anti-WT views known.

Oops! I just tried to listen but was told I need a plugin. I then went to download that and here's the message just prior to the downloading:
Windows Minimum Requirements
- A Pentium processor-based PC or compatible computer
- At least 128MB of RAM
- Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Vista
That excludes me since I have Windows 2000
