Hello Blue Grass,
One of the biggest alibis I hear
i'm a long time lurking of this site(2 years) and a first time poster.
to provide a little background of myself i was not raised as a witness but started studying when i was 19 and got baptized at age 21. a few months after i was baptized i left due to the constant worship of the faithful and discreet slave and the lack of emphasis on christ.
for reasons i'm not sure about yet i decided to attend the district convention last week.

Hello Blue Grass,
One of the biggest alibis I heard as a JW was, well -- we're not perfect. We make mistakes. That, after clearly illustrating several lies that we'd been told by the WT publications over the years. My mother, who has since passed, told me, “There are honest mistakes – but never honest lies.”
I don't know about you, but to me, there are a few things that throw up a big red flag. I call them irreconcilable differences.
1. Lies
2. Doctrinal Contradictions -- these include flip flops, flip flop flips, and even one flip flop flip flop flip (that's on the resurrection, yes or no, of the Sodomites).
If your conscience can live with those red flags, I say go for it.

Oops! I made some statements without backing them up from WT library. Sorry for that. A bit distracted here with computer crashing. I think it's hard drive.

Ever since 1934 when some individuals objected to the requiring of monogamy among Jehovah’s Witnesses, polygamy had continued to pose problems for the brothers. Many who had become associated with Jehovah’s organization still kept several wives. These included some prominent ones who misapplied the scripture at 1 Corinthians 7:20: "In whatever state each one was called, let him remain in it."
However, The Watchtower of January 15, 1947, some months before Brother Knorr’s visit to Nigeria, explained that the Scriptural standard of one wife to one husband must be maintained worldwide. A letter was then sent to the congregations, giving polygamists six months to clean up their marital affairs or lose their privileges.

Reniaa: Or did they finally actually see that other religions and people did this and felt it should be emphasised it was something Jws wouldn't do from bible teaching?
YY2: The Bible Students and JW's never condoned or practiced polygamy.
Neither is correct. No, it finally dawned on them (well, it took some 68 years to see that new light) that they, themselves, including some prominent ones, were doing it

Yea -- Besty wins the prize!!!
Thanks to Blondie's comment a few days ago this topic raised its ugly head. When out in FS years ago we were always quick to jump on the Mormons for their practice. While Mormons officially conformed in 1890, it took JW's another 57 years (1947) before it was finally a prohibited practice.

When I found out it wasn't until 1947 that polygamy was finally outlawed in the WTS world, I was incensed.
Wow! That's profound. Any source, Blondie?

organization member tressa ballard, 62, left the jehovah's witnesses in 1990 and has since embraced evangelical christianity.
the colorado springs resident sometimes speaks at the meetings about how four of her five children who remained in the church refuse to talk to her since she left the faith.
"people can leave, but they will be shunned by family and friends," ballard said.. .
Good idea, AsilentOne. Actually, it's a paste from Blondie's Comments from her post yesterday. I'd be glad to send an email to the reporter but it would be second-hand from me.
How about it, Blondie?

The ink is hardly dry on this Watchtower issue.
Modern-day apostates display characteristics similar to those of the Devil. ... No wonder servants of Jehovah avoid all contact with them!--2 John 10, 11. 06-07-09 WT Study (April 15, 2009, pages 3-7)
i found this in the blogosphere and wondered how it might strike my ex-jw friends.... -------------------.
this is one of the kindest things you may ever see.. it is not known who replied, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office of the us postal service.. .
the day after she died, my 4 year old daughter meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed abbey.
Confession: I love your anecdote about Knorr and Franz. I'd heard something similar before this, perhaps from a R. Franz book?
