  bet you never guessed:the "holy year" that was to lift america out of of the depression was planned long before it started; the depression itself was no small part of that plan.

  it suited vatican city extremely well to have mr. hoover make as big a failure as he could make, and to help it along.

  for many years the systematizers of the 'pope' have been carefully charting and planning the entire political structure of the united states.

  Before Jw's I was Catholic, brought up in a predominantly Catholic city of New Bedford, Massachusetts.

  It wasn't many years after my JW baptism in 1956 that the RC church did a reversal of the no-meat-eating policy with regard to Friday. Oh, did we make hay on that one whenever we had a chance at the doors of Catholics.

  "Today it's okay to eat meat on Friday's but last week it wasn't?"

  "What happens to those already in Purgatory for eating meat?"

  "Can't the church make up its mind when they teach something?"

  "The Friday meat-eating prohibition is an excellent example of your church's contradictions. A complete reversal of doctrine. A doctrinal flip-flop."

  And we unmercifully never let up. Never once did I hear the JW alibi, New Light from a Catholic householder. Little did we know about our own contradictions which would make that single flip-flop look like a tinker-toy. Take the example of the resurrection (or not) of the ancient Sodomites. That teaching alone has been at the mercy of 6 different positions -- yes, no, yes, no, yes, no. All of these positions are verifiable from their own publications. Then, there's the 3 different positions on the Superior Authorities, the identity of the Alpha and the Omega -- 4 positions, the 3 different positions on organ transplants, the 10 different teaching positions of the 1,260 prophetic days, and lest we forget -- the "this generation" teaching and its 6 different positions over the years.

  No, I don't wish to actually try the process. I prefer the digital age. I only want to know the steps of the process they used way back when.

  I've read where Chromolithography was developed in the early 1800's, that it became the process of choice (till the 1930's) for reproducing color works of art, advertising poster, etc.

  I've searched for "how to" sites but can find nothing that reveals a step process for taking a multi-colored page original, then reproducing it. Nothing that tells me what happens to the original -- is it destroyed in the process?

  Hi Dissed,

  I, too, loved my slide rule. It was a Post Versalog with all the scales -- and I was familiar with many of them. It included a beautiful hard leather case. Remember the folded scales on those fat ones like the Versalog? That way one could do a string of calculations with only a single slide or cursor movement for each value.

  I bought it and its case from a brother (Paul Lane, now deceased just a few years ago, and who lived at the time in Newton, Iowa) who had attended a single semester at Iowa State University. He quit because of conscience -- you know, attending an institution of higher learning, realizing that the end was right around the corner.

  I thought $35 was a good price even at that time.

  Like several here, computer aided design but slanted toward Manufacturing Tool Design. From 1963 thru 1986 it was entirely at the mercy of the manual drawing board -- remember triangles, drafting machines, hand printing in all uppercase, orthographic projection views? I cut my teeth on AutoCAD 2.18 and currently own a llicense to 2005. The last few years, prior to retirement 7 years ago, I moved muchy of my work to Pro-Engineer, the solid modeler.

  In using AutoCAD I did much application development using their built-in AutoLISP programming language (similar to C++). Here's one of my apps (I call it MyGEARilla ) that is free for personal use if you are interested in designing your own spur gears. It's the best out there. Of course, I'm prejudiced.

  everything i read on this website and elsewhere indicates that the witness are extremely united in doctrine and practices worldwide.

  when i'm reading comments here, i have no idea whether the person is posting from the us or some other part of the world (unless they say so).

  everyone's experience seems to be the same wherever they live.

  Thanks to Crisis of Conscience (Ray Franz) check out differences between the countries Malawi and Mexico. Shocking.

  Search for Bulgaria and concessions that Watchtower had to make with that country re blood policies.

  Also, up until the 1940s -- if you were a JW in certain parts of Africa, having more than one wife was not a DF offense. Believe it or not, the Mormons did away with that practice in the 1890s.

  I'm Out

  wednesday night i recieved a call from both the coeb and the kingdom hall.

  i didn't answer.

  yesterday i called him back and i was informed that unless i wanted to talk to the brothers they had determined that my actions spoke for themselves and that i had by those actions disassociated myself.

  They are aware that the majority of faders are done with this organization, and that they represent a danger to their claim of authority because active JW can still talk to faders. We should not be surprised when the official policy gets introduced, there will be an initiative to DA/DF all those who have not been reporting FS time and/or attending meetings regularly for a certain period of time.

  While I don't question the possibility of making such announcements, I seriously doubt that it will fly. Do you realize what that would do to their worldwide numbers? I'd venture to say that some 50% of their membership numbers are made up of faders who would come under the umbrella of a platform announcement -- "the following list of people are no longer Jehovah's Witnesses ...". Such a mass announcement of names could cause repercussions that even the GB hasn't considered within their worst nightmare.

  I could, however, see where they could draw a line in the sand and say, effective January, 2010 and forward -- fade and your name will be called.

  first, pastor russell had joined adventist bible students in their enthusiam for end times chronologies.. next, russell teamed up with leading adventist thinkers like george storrs and barbour to publish these chronologies and apologies.. finally, russell used his private wealth to cut and paste ideas from all over the religious map into his own peculiar name-brand version of adventism which included pyramidology.. local congregations kept autonomy.

  russell would have it no other way.

  judge rutherford crept in to wrest control of the watchtower for himself and begin a new agenda which would transform local congregations of bible students into a cult of mind-controlled salesmen serving a religion of business organization.. this is what happened.. rutherford's key strategy succeeded in wresting a personality cult (pastor russell) away from "creature worship" and transforming it into a business concern or organization which could claim and demand loyalty in terms of statistical productivity (preaching and book sales.).

  Hi Terry,

  It is very illustrative to look up the word ‘adultery’ in the Watch Tower Publications Index 1930-1985.
  (Here you will not find a single reference to sexual adultery anywhere in the WTS literature before 1947. Later, in the 1950s, and until this day, articles denouncing all sorts of sexual sins flourished. In Rutherford’s vernacular, the word ‘adultery’ was reserved for his opponents’ religious sins.)
  It's sad that Jan S. Haugland tarnished an otherwise brilliant synopsis with such an inaccurate statement.

  In defense of Jan, he may have relied completely on some index that was created by WT. In defense of all others I submit the following.
  
  With a casual search of the text string "adulter" (finds adultery, adulterous, etc) within Watch Towers from 1930 through 1933, I found 3 instances that contradict his above statement.
  
  David’s dead baby was an illegitimate child, born to David by an act of adultery committed with another man’s wife. We should not think, though, that.the baby went to a place of eternal torment, and that David meant to join him in that place; because David was punished, repented, and died faithful to God, and the Bible prophesies of his restoration from death to life on earth under Christ’s kingdom.

  The text selected for study at this time is a part of a story found in the tenth chapter of Mark’s gospel, verses 17 to 31, and because those verses contain one answer to the question which the young man asked, a question of vital interest to all, the whole passage is here quoted: "And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life 8 "And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good, but one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, ... Certain principles are here set before us: Obedience to God’s commands to the best of one’s ability. Giving earthly possessions a secondary place in the heart. Generosity toward one’s fellow men. Following Jesus, the Lamb of God. It may be set down as certain that none will ever have everlasting life who do not, sooner or later, recognize and adhere to these principles.
  WT 1930, p 40, Article "WHAT SHALL I DO THAT I MAY INHERIT ETERNAL LIFE?"
  The parable of the penny is a striking illustration of this truth. In the preceding article in the Watchtower are shown laborers called into the field over a period of twelve years, the conclusion of which period came in 1931, after the Lord disclosed to his people that he had given unto them a new name which his own mouth had named and which name is Jehovah’s witnesses. ... "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, fcolishness. All these evil things come from within, and defile the man." (Mark 7 : 21-23) One who is defiled and remains in that condition could not be of the temple or sanctuary class. *I know the facts show that since the making known of the new name, and hence the paying of the wages to the laborers, there have been those who previously held the positions of "elective elder" and who have since become murmurers and complainers against the Lord’s work on earth, claiming that they are set aside and given no honor such as they formerly had. Their complaints and murmurings are really against Jehovah God. These selfish ones would complain against the Lord and his manner of dealing with them, and they would not likely use the new name [Jehovah's witnesses] according to his will; and the facts show that they do not use it according to his will.

  Newbie here, need some input

  i wanted to introduce myself, and need some advice.. i dissassociated myself back in 1995. haven't had much of anything to do with my family since then.

  they are all witnesses, and very dedicated to their beliefs.

  so after 15 years without a simple howdy from them, now they are coming around again and being very nice, but it reminds me of when people would have parts in the ministry school...it seems rehearsed and fake.

  Noting that you Disassociated yourself means you are to be treated as an ex-JW and must be shunned. However, if by they you mean elders, then that's perfectly okay and legal with the congregation and the top ones at the Society. They're probably testing the waters (your current feeling about the troof) especially as we near the Memorial.

  If they are not elders then count your blessings. Be thankful that they have weakened their resolve to be strong JWs, maybe even feeling as you now do.
