Are only women signing up for Jah's army?
by donny inthis morning as i was out doing my morning run, i noticed 3 vans drive by and park on a small connecting street near my home.
out of the three vans came 14 jw's out for their morning field service.
all but two of the 14 were women and one of the guys was probably around 14 or 15. the other guy looked to be in his 40's.

Internet Explorer 9 can be a pain.
To follow up on yesterdays encounter with the JW's, two women approached me and began talking about the recent earthquakes and world upheaval (I guess some things never change). I quickly interupted to steer the conversation a different direction. Although it was two different folks who came here the last time, their replies were was almost the same.
Me: I am somewhat familiar with your teachings. I have an aunt back in Texas who is a Witness and she has told me much about the religion but I have an issue with 1919 as being the day God chose your organization as the one true religion?
JW 1: 1919? God chose us? Where did you hear that?
Me: From my aunt.
JW 2: Well she must be new in the truth and does not know the whole depth of it yet.
Me: Ok, so when did God choose your organization and the one and only?
JW 1: There was no one year when it suddenly came, it was a gradual process.
Me: So how long was this "process"
JW 2: Why don't you come to our Kingdom Hall and talk to one of our elders. They would be able to give you a more detailed answer.
JW 1: Yes, they have more in depth knowledge that you will find amazing.
Me: So you are saying that you guys don't teach that God chose your group in 1919 as the "faithful and discreet slave?"
JW 1: Well yes God selected the Society, that is what we call our leadership, as the faithful and discreet slave but it was done over time.
Me: So when would you say this "done over time" selection was complete?
JW 1: (Shrugs) I'm not sure of an exact year (looks over at her partner who also shrugs) but I am sure our elders could give you a better answer. May I ask why this is important to you?
Me: Well you guys say that you are part of the only organization that God works through and that is a very big claim. Big claims require big evidence and there has to be a point in time when it was determined that you guys are "it." I can't just be told "we are the true religion" without digging deeper to find out how and when this occured. You have to admit, that is a huge claim considering the thousands and thousands of Christians sects today.
JW 1: Christian sex?
Me: Not sex, sects. S.E.C.T.S. It means different groups or offshoots.
JW 2: Well I guess different poeple need different things to convince them. An exact date as to when God chose was never important to me, it was more about how they believe in the Bible and try their best to teach the truth.
JW 1: Yes, the Bible and staying true to it is the most impotant thing.
Me: But didnt you guys just recently change the generation of 1914 teaching from being associated to those who were born that year would still be here at the end to this overlapping generation thing?
JW 1 (Both begin walking away) Please sir, come to the Kingdom Hall and our elder will be able to answer your questions.
Me: Well send them here. I'm kind of busy and I dont know where your Kingdom Hall is.
JW 1: It's on Constitution, you can Google it.
Me: What if I dont have a PC?
JW 1: It's in the Yellow Pages
Me: I don't have a Yellow Pages
JW 2: Ok, ok. We will send an elder here. Will you be here next Saturday?
Me: Yes
JW 2: Then we'll inform them so one can come. Have a nice day sir.
Me: You too. Tell them I want that date or date range of your organizations selection by God.
JW 2: Yes sir we will. Goodbye
I can hardly wait.

I know the Society has always had a shortage when it came to "qualified" males in the congregations, but has this problem became worse since I left in 1992?

I just can't do this anymore
by Awen indear friends:.
for years now after my exit from the wtbts i have searched for god.
as i have previously mentioned in other threads i looked into many other religions, including druidry, zen and tibetan buddhism (not really a religion), asatru, native american shamanism, kemetic orthodoxy, gnosticism and pandeism.

Very good post. When I left the borg 19 years ago I was sort of zoned out. I peoceeded to check out various religions but none of them really passed the smell test. It took a while but I finally had to admit that I just do not know if there is anything living beyond that which is physical.
I have not closed my mind to it completely, but I am not expecting anything to come along that will change my view.

Shoot from the hip witnessing and the calm before the storm?
by donny inone of my co-workers here (a non-baptized, non-attending meeting son of a jw) told me yesterday that his jw cousin told him that the end is right at the doorstep because of the calm and complacency seen not only in the "world" but also in the congregation.
he told him that this "lack of zeal" was not due to a lack of love for jehovah, but was gods way of fulfilling prophecy.
the jw cousin then went on to cite the example of the folks of noah's time when everyone was partying and having a good time and suddenly the flood came and that was all she wrote.

What's more puzzling is that this guy is supposedly an elder.

My co-worker said he does not buy it, but did seem a bit concerned. When I bounced this off a practicing JW here, he commented that he had not heard that particular story. A second JW here also had not heard of this approach. Are JW's now just making stuff up on an individual basis to convince themseleves that they are in the "truth"? Is "shoot from the hip" witnessing now in vogue?

Are you sick of conspiracy nuts?.....9/11
by Witness 007 inyes apparently the staff at the twin towers on 9/11 didn't notice the explosives strapped to all the beams on each floor......of course a plane fully loaded with jet fuel going so fast it nearly flew through the building {blew out the otherside} would not be enough to cause a collapse.
the building were glowing red!
people jumped due to the heat and smoke.

And some are suggesting the earthquake in the Pacific last year and the subsequent tsunami was the result of the same group detonating a couple of powerful nukes at just the right place.
As I have said before, if these people really believe that then they need to just bow down to them and let them do their thing as it would involve folks with powers, organization and technology far beyond what we earthlings have. Maybe Stargate is true. :)
