What was your first Religious Experience ?

just wondered how others first learned about religion.

i know "born ins" were taught from the start but the rest of us had to start somewhere.

my very first memory of anything supposedly religious was at the age of six... my grandmother took me to a "tent revival".

My aunt left me there sitting for a few minutes and I felt so terrified at that point when she went up to where the priest was and partook. So that was my first intro to religion, at the Catholic church

Did you see any sad living conditions in Field Service...?

im sure all of us at one time or another witnessed homes that broke our heartshere are a few of mine.

some of the homes i had been invited into out in service really left an impression on me.

call it naive or whatever, it was a real eye opener in some cases.. one in particular that i remember was a poor family with 8 little girls, stair step in age, the oldest no more than 9. this was an rv of the sister i was with.... very nice people, but the living conditions were appalling.

Wow, those are some really wild experiences...

the women was changing the babies dirty nappy swilled all the pooh out in the kitchen sink over all the cups and plates that were in it then took a couple of cups out of the sink, rinsed them under the tap and proceeded to make them a cup of tea. Needless to say they declined drinking it.!!!!!

Oh Good Lord.... tell me you are Kidding............ Just when you think you've heard it all...

Hey SPAZnik..............your story reminds me of a older man I called on... he sat by the door in a recliner all the time. The rest of the house was filled with junk and bags of trash with just a narrow aisle to the rest of the house. I don't think he got up much as he had a bucket for urinating right by the chair...........

I was horrified by it and everyone said there was nothing we could do about it

I sympathize with the helplessness you must have felt at the time. I too, felt it at times in service......but was at a loss as to what to do. The witnesses I was with, always told me, we've done what we could... "We gave them Hope"... (unreal, now that I look back on it).

I think today... calling social services is the more accepted thing to do....maybe not to the JWs, but to me personally.

And why not do we need to pretend to pray to some unseen diety worship some mythical being to be AWARE of our wonderful existence...we are wonderfully made it does not necessary mean we came from a diety...look up at the night sky the millions of stars the billions of galaxies we are sentient hear and now we may be the only sentient beings in our universe time line yes we are wonderfully made

Zeroday, I can totally agree with that. "Now" at this stage of my life.... but at as a child, I was desperate for something.

I can relate also. My "church" is nature, when I'm scuba diving or free diving to 80 feet, when I'm sleeping in the wilderness and I hear wolfs and howls, when I spend the night besides the St-Lawrence and I hear the wales sing, now that for me is "god".

I get a much better feeling from a day on the river than I EVER did coming out of a Kingdom Hall.

I am so sorry you had to experience such... I know how it is to live in an abusive home... Hopefully you are free now...

I can't image what it must be like to deal with all that "WITH" a faith in god, as a child. I realize he didn't do anything to help you, and I hate that. But, I didn't have anything... just talking to the wind...it would have been nice to at least have felt there was a higher power out there.

I guess there's not many people around like me, in the US anyway... that didn't have a clue about God until they got older.........

Were you born in...??? If not... how did you come to learn about the Bible and all...? I didn't even know God existed, in the true sense of the word, till I was 17.

going to state!

the youngest of the brood just got done with an entire day of regional competition..... out of 5 events, she will be going on to state level in 4..... 3 vocal events, including alto solo, and 1 band event, playing alto sax...... additionally she will be competeing at state level in speech forensics...... to think i robbed my older kids of these opportunities by adhering to a ridiculous man-made admonition to keep separate ..... i dont know who i hate more.... me or them.

Chickpea to you and your Daughter...!! That is an amazing accomplishment.. YOU must be proud...

Don't feel too bad, we've all caused our children to miss out one way or another... I did the same. My oldest didn't get to do anything. My youngest experienced it all...........
