I dont know what their official stance on this is but I know an elder whos wife is anorexic, she is treated like anybody else in the real world would be, she sees doctors and they encourage her to eat.

eating disorders in JWs
by girl_interrupted inwhat would the jehovah's witnesses have to say about eating disorders?
presumably any kind of mental illness is frowned upon and put down to weakness of the spirit.....i know when i was in it, one sister was severely chastised for having depression....she was told to have more faith in jehovah and presumably when she did, her husband would stop beating her and sexually abusing their kids which was understandably the source of her depression!

What are your favourite vegeatables?
by greendawn innutritionists tell us that vegetables contain a wide variety of substances that are beneficial to our health, and these are not vitamins and minerals, they are called phytochemicals.
given the fact that in the western world people consume a great deal of industrially processed food eating a lot of fresh veg (and fruit) can only be beneficial.
do you consume a lot of these?

long years of brainwashing finally come to an end.....
by girl_interrupted inhi everyone, i'm new here......basically, i found this website a couple of weeks ago when i was in dire need of some like-minded souls who had felt screwed up about the jw's.
from about the age of four/five, my parents and i were involved in the organisation, and all three of us are stil messed up because of it.....we are no longer involved in it, but it took quite a few years before my parents found the strength to leave.
to begin with, i was quite a zealous jw, was baptised at twelve and disfellowshipped at fourteen, because as i got older i began to grow ''weak in the truth'' as people so kindly described me!

Is this shunning?
by Ellie in.
its a long story but basically i was having a bible study with my half sister, i hadn't had a lot to do with her during my childhood so studying was for me an excuse to get to know her, and she was lovely, she couldn't do enough to help me, until i stopped going to the meetings and told her i didn't want to study anymore, then she dropped me like a brick and now refuses to speak to me at all.. shortly after this happened our younger brother started to study with her son, my brother needed somewhere to stay so they offered for him to move in with them which he did.. he became quite engrossed in his studies, they encouraged him to stop associating with his worldly friends which he did, he became an unbaptized publisher, but still they didnt really associate much with him, even my sisters 2 sons who live in the same house as him and are the same age group didn't bother much with him, so my brother found himself quite isolated, and ofcourse i'm bad association so he was always told not to visit me.. anyway, due to all this hes missed a few meetings recently, not many but just enough for them to tell him that hes got till september 7th to leave, giving the reason that hes not making enough of an effort to serve jehovah.. what do you all think?.
is this typical behaviour of jehovahs witnesses, or are my family really messed up??

JW Shunning Does Accomplish A Lot Of Good...
by Honesty inbecause it shows everyone in the community how cruel, unloving, hateful and distorted the cult can be at a moment's notice.
when a jw shuns an ex-member in public as the ex-member greets the jw with a smile and in a friendly manner the normal reaction of people who see this is repugnancy.
they see how hypocritical the jw's are because they go 'from house to house' proclaiming their love for other people and then display their real hearts when they encounter an ex-member.

What exactly is a beer belly?
by sonnyboy inthis probably sounds like a stupid topic, but what's in a beer belly?
i've always been on the thin side, but i've been drinking too much beer lately and notice something happening above my belt.
it's not really noticeable and is easiliy sucked in, but i'm not happy.

Ellie
being male I'm guessing you're not pregnant, so I'd quit the beer for a while see if it disappears

How long is too long?
by Insomniac injust a question, for those who might know.
how long should you hang onto a relationship, when it's becoming undeniably clear that it's going nowhere?.
i'm so in love, with the most wonderful person i've ever known.

In my opinion you are lucky to have what you have, some people go through life without ever falling in love.
I'd just relax and enjoy it if I were you, if he didnt love you he wouldnt stay with you for so long, maybe hes just happy and doesn't want anything to spoil it.

How do you deal with "Anxiety"
by ScoobySnax inhave you ever had anxiety?
i don't mean general anxiety you get before an exam or an interview, i mean anxiety out of the blue that seems to hit you when you can be in a warm pleasant atmosphere.......a feeling like you just have to get up and go.
sometimes its terrifying, hyperventillating, can't get your breath, feel like everything is closing in around you.
-
Ellie
I have obsessive compulsive disorder which is an anxiety disorder, I can't stress enough to you how important it is for you to see a doctor who can either prescribe medication to you or put you in touch with a phycologist, these things have a habbit of getting worse if you don't sort them out.

Men In The Girlie Department.
by Englishman inhow do other guys feel about going into women's clothes shops?.
i spent ages with her ladyship in the per una section of marks & spencers today.
i was quite happy to bumble about behind her and even managed to achieve some nonchalance while i was waiting for her to try stuff on in the changing rooms.
-
Ellie
I really don't like clothes shopping but my partner often forces me to go and yes he comes with me and forces me to try things on, however we have recently discovered that Topshop have stylists who will pick clothes out for you and give an honest opinion of how you look, now he just sends me in there.

I can't see any problem with it, apart from my friends little boy is bi racial, at 6 months old he had his first experience with racism, pretty disgusting if you ask me and its the only reason I would think twice before getting involved with someone from another race.
