Got a medical exemption from school at age 14 i was too sick to sit in a classroom due to unrelenting ulcerative colitis.

warning: this post may be damaging to your biases.. it seems to me that the "danger" the witnesses pose to larger society is, well, pretty damn small.

just think about it: the witnesses are almost not involved in politics at all, except the occassional "freedom of religion and speech" issues they take to various courts, issues i am happy to support the witnesses in, even if i strongly disagree with their beliefs.

you will not see jws supporting banning abortions or gay marriages or a whole host of other civil liberties and freedoms that evangelicals rally around like the village people searching for frankenstein's monster.

Born In, the Difference

born in, what difference does it make?

i was thinking about this one a lot over the last few weeks.

what difference does it make whether you were born into a cult or were brought in as a teen or adult?

I was 'born in' 1957 to hard core pioneer parents who were reviled for getting 'knocked up' with your's truly.

My family started out broken by the watchtower and stayed poor, we lived hand to mouth and the watchtower ruled us with an iron fist.

Had a brutal time going to school during the 'better dead than red' super nationalism of the early 1960's.

I got beat up in the school yard while the WT leaders who ran my show and made my rules had personal body guards.

They made us all dysfunctional with their 1975 fiasco (it's all your fault for serving jehover for a date)

when you were still in the org, did you ever wonder what the apostates were saying?

the society would just say lies and half truths.i always assumed it was about the trinity, and other religious stuff.

i thought they were exjws who had become born agains !.

My first impressionsof the loathsome abominable apostate after the bogeyman of the evil slave had run it's course,was the 1979 [100 year anniversary of the Watchtower] district convention at the Bayfront center in St.Petersburg Florida.

Of course this new apostate character was introduced with the flair of a WT Drama.
The theme of the drama's setting being what else,but the usurping of Moses and Aaron by the Korah gang,and how the ground opened up and swallowed the clan whole.
In the mid 1980's the Watchtower further elaborated on the apostate buffoonery with a subtitled article;Apostasy in the camp.
This article was about some JW refugees sequestered in a camp where one of their members broke away and "went on up to the mountain top to get instruction from Jehovah like Moses did", and returned butt naked and hysterical.
This impression of the deranged/flunky/haughty,apostate buffoon was to persist until my own 'crisis of conscience' in 1992
My first contact 1994 with an apostate was David Reed who i suspected may be throughly demonized.I became a supporter of his comment from the friends operations,and the ground didn't open up. Back as early as 92 the internet was already being demonized as 'the tool of satan' by the watchtower although i knew of no one who was connected on line.Most JW family's who had a PC in the house the children used it to play space invaders. A couple of years after my 'purge' Ray Franz published his COC and i had my first meeting with Steve Hassan at his home who lived the next suburb over in Boston Massachusetts.
Steve seeded a start up ex cult support group at Boston University and i met other EX JW's along with Children of God,Moonies and Scientologist. Yes,we have come a long way baby..... Put plain and simple:The Watchtower is about one thing,other people's money.--- Danny Haszard the apostate is all about:getting all his Watchtower money back. The Bogeyman Related:

uncharacteristically, i am not going to give my definition of evil at the outset.. i want your opinions and discussion of exactly what you think it is.. after a number of posts i'll weigh in.. 1.is evil an actual "thing" or a state of mind?.

2.is evil a part of the universe or only a consequence of something having to do with mankind?.

3.what causes evil?

Do you have a 'canned' presentation for when you run into dubs?

when you're in the process of fading, especially in the early months, there's this constant fear (or at least uneasiness) that you will run into a jw every time you walk into a supermarket, department store, movie theater, etc.

i'm thinking the best way to deal with this concern is to prepare a "presentation" in advance -- a sentence or two, or some talking points, so that when it happens i don't have to wonder what i'm going to say.

the problem is, i keep changing the message in my head.
