  WT Against Higher Education...Again

  the october 1, 2005 watchtower slams higher education in a 5 page analysis on why it is better to pioneer than go to college.

  i recieved this wt today and i was shocked by the statements in there.

  i can fax a copy to anyone who wants it.

  This is interesting. I'm in school, have had parts in conventions and assemblies. And never ONCE has an elder come up to me and discouraged me about going to college. However, some of the ultra-fundamentalist piooner sisters and brothers have given me side comments and things of the sort. And its really depressing sometimes when the people in the congregation ask you something about college, but then you realize that they really dont care or arent listening. I've always reasoned that as long as the cant disfellowship me for it. They really have nothing on me. :-d One thing about college that i've realized that it IS dangerous (to them i guess), college alone has brought many doubts to my mind just through social studies classes.

  Got a call from an Elder last night.

  was about 8:30 last night and the phone rang....it was an elder from my old congo he wanted to come over and i said "why" and he goes we want to know what we can do to help you spiritually.

  in which i replied "things havnt changed for me i still feel the same way, there are things i dont believe in and never will and im not going to be one of those hypocrites sitting there pretending i believe,.

  a bit of background info i sent my d\a letter off prob bout 7 months ago now, they just disregarded it thinking i was doing it to get back at my dad!.so he asked me last night after 7 months if i wanted them to go through with the d\a letter...i was like wtf.

  Why are there more JWs on Social Security Beneifits than any other Religion

  on a per capita ratio jws ethos for claiming off the state is higher than any other religion.

  does anyone have the answer?

  i remember in the late 80s the borg came out with an article "uses and abuses of the welfare system".

  I think over half of the things mentioned in this forum lack any proof but its amazing how everyone jumps on it like its a known fact. Sometimes you guys can be very inightful but other times you all just get caught up in your rants and the rush of witty statements blasting WTS. I'm in college right now and i'm more or less left alone. Sure i get the occasional sarcastic comment, but they dont have the balls to look me in the eye when they say it so it really doesnt matter now does it?

  thanks to the marvels of bit torrent, i've stumbled upon this show starring micheal ian black, whom i liked in viva variety and the state.

  i love this show and i've only seen three episodes.. anybody else out there like this show?

  if you like off-beat comedy i reccomend that you check it out.

  in today's wall street journal there was an excellent article about stem cell research.

  the united states used to be number 1 in science research.

  we are now number 2 and continually on the decline even more.

  before i came in da troof i thought cleaning was womens work - after i came in the truth i noticed elders cleaned windows and held janitorial positions - so jws are not male chauvanists

  In my area, the elderettes usually wear the pants in the family. I very seldom see the elder being the dominant or abusive one.

  My problem is when do you decide that an unborn child is Human or Human enough to have rights that the born have? I mean. Is it the very second a child is born that he or she becomes human and is granted rights that we abuse everday? Or is it actually when brain activity begins or when they grow arms and feet or their heart starts beating? I think when something like that is on the line, we're better off leaving it alone. But i guess its easier for me to say that now. Its just one of those subjects that will have to be dealt with sooner or later.

  Suitable careers for JW children to aim for!

  the october the 1st watchtower has interesting views on the education of jw children.. page 30, in which one jw explains how he ended up in ft service says:.

  'we did not associate with our school mates but only with those in the congregation who had good spiritual habits.'.

  interesting as this shows judgmentalism and criticism 'even' in the jw congregation.. then on page 31 it explains how parents must offer their children, as early as possible, proper guidance in their choice of school subjects and vocation goals.. 'rather than choose academic subjects that are geared toward a university education, parents and children need to consider courses that are useful in pursuing a theocratic career.'.

  I dunno...I heard of doctor and lawyer JW's in bethel. I also know a sister who had my major and just left to pioneer, but regardless she is quite intelligent. My thing is. No one gives a D@mn about you. People talk and talk and they look down on my because i go to college. But my reasoning is, witnesses talk, but when push comes to shove, they'll tell you "Jehovah will help you", go on about their day and shake their heads when you need another job to make ends meet. Well i figured. I'll help Jehovah find me a job faster by going to college. I'm more likely to get hired with a college degree than a certificate in HVAC. But as someone noted earlier, college IS dangerous for the blind JW youth because they teach you to think. They teach you to question everything you believe, from religion to government. And i guess thats why i'm here now...
