Yup, great movie.
But if i had to decide. i'd say a movie like equilibrium was more like the JW situation (or then again, i just liked equilibrium's action scenes)
by now, i realize there are a couple of good movies that help to understand the situation a jw finds himself in, once he finds out the truth about "the truth".
like: the village, the island, stepford wifes.
i find that these movies help me to understand the situation of being trapped in a cult and the mixed emotions about finding out and the courage and strenght needed to leave.

love's no 'hustle' to star
'hustle & flow' star terrence howard has asked dayanara torres, whose ex is marc anthony, to marry him.
Thats kinda funny, we were talking about him today in one of my classes.
it is funny but i love that old expression "karma is the best payback".
i happened to see one of those super arognant elders that was the judicial committee that put me on "private reproof" years ago when i was a "devout" jw and fell into unscriptual conduct.
they literally had me trembling back there in the back of the kh wondering if i was going to be disfellowshipped or put on public reproof.
I remember an elder from the congregation i used to be in when i was little. Anyway, a couple of years after i left he was disfellowshipped for impregnating a sister during a shepherding call.
ok, so remember this guy: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/104535/1.ashx ?.
brief overview... black college professor / lawyer, recently came in the truth... yadda yadda.. well, i worked with him out in service, and we were talking about mormanism, and he said that he knew mormanism was wrong because they once taught that black folks couldnt go to heaven, but then they magically changed and said they could.
so then i asked him how he felt about the society's old stance on black people.
I feel bad, i Rode some mormons last year about how blacks will supposedly go to a lower ring of heaven. At least i ahve something to say the next time somone tells me the society was free from it.
if you could go any place in the world and not worry about money, food, clothing, etc... where would you go?
Tahiti or Fiji. Anywhere Hot and Beautiful. OOOO yeah... :-D
well, i was dating this guy and its been a long time since i have even been with anyone that i thought was worthwhile.
i've been focusing on other things and with everything else going on with trying to gain my independance i just have not wanted to get caught up.
anyways, how dare the guy i was seeing call the whole jw mind-cult issue "stupid" when i tried to explain to him why i am the way i am (awful social skills, the simple excitement from just being around a new scene, etc.
I've often thought about this issue and my future.
Chances are whoever i end up with (if they arent an ex-witness, ex-cult member) wont understand just how much control this organization had our my lives.
BUT then again, its probably that this particular guy doesnt have the maturity to understand something as complex as this.
I'm pretty sure there are people out there who do understand what we went through and will be able to appreciate our need to vent. Just keep looking ;-).

ive never been punished like that i my home.
my family always talked to me and we would decide a non-physical punishment.
i was wandering, is still common for jw family to spank their children and if so, does the spanking continue into their late teens, even adults.
Depends.
My family came from a carribean background, so the children received WHOOPINGS and this carried over to the congregations where the familys were made up of foreign witnesses.
Anyway, i stopped being "spanked" when i turned 12, thats when i lost TV priviledges and such.
are they in their best moments right now, since they never had as many witnesses as now worldwide, or were their best days somewhere in 1950's or 60's or 70's before deception set it.
did the watchtower ever have any credibility somewhere in time?
I think that the best moments were when the WTBS started gaining members again in the early 80's (but then that was stopped with the release of crisis of conscience)
is there anything that might get your witness relative or friend out of the "truth"??
?
Thursday night, my brother told me that if our adoptive mother died, he'd leave.
We in no way want her to die, but right now, she's the main reason we wont leave.
She's so concerned about how other people think about her that it would probably kill her if we left the religion
briget has kindly invited us to have a tarot reading.
if you haven't had it done already, agnostic, atheist or ardant christian i highly recomend you do.
imagine my dismay on finding myself to be afflicted with living under the influence of the dreaded tower card!
