  What Did You Not Do Because You Were A Jehovah's Witness That You Wanted To Do?

  i didn't go to college and of course, "higher education" was never recommended.

  still, i never felt terribly deprived because of not going further in my education.. yet, i did wish that i could've had "normal" aka "worldly friends".

  i wish that as witnesses, we could've been better integrated with other people.

  I 'missed out' on the usual:

  Dating during High School & the first two years of college. It's not like i've had any trouble since leaving, but i would have liked to have dated in my senior year of high school and freshman year of college.

  Playing High School Sports (football & wrestling). I'm not going to say that I could have made it to the NFL, but I'm pretty sure i would have been able to play college football. But again, it's one of those things where you romanticize what you might have been.

  Getting a full ride via a NSA scholarship. I was offered a preliminary interview involving an NSA scholarship where i'd get a full ride plus a paid internship and a job after graduation. I, like an idiot, spoke to an elder about it and was convinced not to do it (since it would be defense related and i woudln't be showing christian neutrality blah blah blah). I took the advice at the time, but that was the last time i mentioned anything to the elders involving my secular life.

  Did you ever 'add' something to WT pictures?

  as a teenager, i had to make the tedious meetings a little more entertaining, i would often add my own touch to the silly photos or pictures in the wt articles or current study book.

  examples of anachronistic items in bible times pictures easily added: cigarettes with a small wisp of smoke, a pistol, sunglasses, fishing rod, bloodshot eyes, cracks in structures, small aircraft outline with contrail... you get the idea.

  (with the right pen and a steady hand it did not look like obvious graffitti.. sometimes the goofy gestures portrayed in the art was just begging for a touch-up.

  I was naughty towards the end of my 'tenure' as a witness. I used to 'desecrate' the song books in the lost & found and return them at the end of the meetings . I'd draw eye patches, nooses, sunglasses, bullet wounds, you know...the usual stuff.

  I regret never scanning this one, but my brother was the watchtower reader that day and there was a picture of an older man behind a woman and I added speech bubbles pretending he was having sex with her doggy style to my brother's watchtower. He noticed it before going on stage, but it would have been funny if he first noticed it while he was up there.

  Why do some women think the bottle blonde and bottle tan look is good?

  just met a woman, who would have been pretty had she not been orange and had almost white blonde hair.

  neither real, the look came complete with hair extensions which also looked flase.. does anyone think this looks good?

  I remember having a calculus class with a pretty girl that had tanned herself to the point that her skin was a dark orange. It was kinda sad because the extreme tan took away from someone that was very attractive.

  I never really understood the tanning craze (probably because I have a 'natural' tan and can only get so much darker, lol). Personally, i think the natural look is always best and if you're going to tan, don't over do it.

  many are young people that simply go through the motions until they can free themselves .

  others have relatives or family still trapped .

  Growing up, I had a JW family as neighbors, they had an older, baptized daughter. Her entire family was full of "type A" JW's who thought they were better than everyone.

  Anyway, the daughter started banging guys in the neighborhood, and i heard rumors from non-witnesses, the girl's grandmother would tell anyone who would listening what was going on, but no one believed her.

  Eventually, one of her boyfriend's convinced her to start shoplifting and she was caught and the truth came out, her father lost his position as an elder, and her mother stopped pioneering.

  Her story became one of those JW cautionary tales about how "Bad association spoils useful habits" .

  That's exactly what I was thinking. In fact, when he said that the rapture had begun "invisibly" i immediately thought of the JW doctrine of how christ had begun to rule 'invisibly' in 1914.

  I'm trying to imagine how i would have taken the similarities if i was still a JW.

  After leaving the JW's, why would anybody seek another religion

  after such a traumatic experience in the jehovah's witness religion and reasoning on all other versions of religion, why do so many just jump ship into another religion offering the world but still delivering nothing!.

  I thought about this too when i first started coming to these boards and learned that a significant portion of the posters were now christians of another denomination, amongst other things.

  As a JW, i spent so much time bashing & discrediting other religions, when i finally faded I simply had no interest in joining another religion.
