I find it very hard to believe that god will kill off a billion people because Atheism is their country's national religion.

The Society's Effective Strategy to Smother the Truth...
by Confession inwhen, as one of jehovahs witnesses, we found householders unwilling to listen to us, we were at times frustrated.
the comparison often made was to a burning house with people inside.
we were trying our best to warn them of danger, but usually they would not listen, often scoffing at us.

I think it all comes down to the belief that JW's are the one and only true religion. Couple this with a monopoly on information, love and perceived happiness, then you have a group of people who are too afraid to think for themselves.

Misquoting Jesus
by SickofLies inbook review: the popular perception of the bible as a divinely perfect book receives scant support from ehrman, who sees in holy writ ample evidence of human fallibility and ecclesiastical politics.
though himself schooled in evangelical literalism, ehrman has come to regard his earlier faith in the inerrant inspiration of the bible as misguided, given that the original texts have disappeared and that the extant texts available do not agree with one another.
most of the textual discrepancies, ehrman acknowledges, matter little, but some do profoundly affect religious doctrine.

Before i even started coming to JWD i started to be disturbed about the number discrepancies.
Then i heard that they were accepting people who were younger than 60 for the anointed then i started to get suspicious. I typed in "anointed remnant" into google and now i'm here, lol.

Tell your coworkers you're no longer a witness?
by Dune inwell, when i first started working at my current place of employement, i was (still am) a witness.
i went through a whole year of having to explain over and over why i didnt vote, why i didnt celebrate birthdays, thanksgivings, christmas and why i couldnt take part in lotteries and all the rest of that crap.
i'm two years into the job and now it doesnt present a "problem" anymore.

I went through a whole year of having to explain OVER and OVER why i didnt vote, why i didnt celebrate birthdays, thanksgivings, Christmas and why i couldnt take part in lotteries and all the rest of that crap.I'm two years into the job and now it doesnt present a "problem" anymore. But now that i'm leaving(the religion), I'm not sure i could continue to keep acting like i dont want to take part in all of those things anymore, however, i also dont want to look like a hypocrite. I never prostelyized and i made it perfectly clear from the start that i had my beliefs but would not be putting down anyone elses OR discussing religion with them.
Has anyone else gone through a similar situation with their coworkers?

Does anyone else see the irony in this cartoon?
JW's (under handedly) point to the Islamic state as the new King of the North.
I'm sure if this thing kicks off, JW's probably think it will set the stage for the king of the north to persecute the "Sacred Secret" or some other garbage like that.

Did your reading skills suffer from your JW experience?
by Maryjane ini was a staunch jw and rarely read anything other than the wt/awake and newspapers (reading level - 6th grade maybe?
) prior to becoming a jw i could easily read a book a week...now it takes me forever just to get through one novel.
has anyone else lost their reading attention span?

I saw my public/private reading abilities increase. Of course, i was at a developmental stage (7-12)
One thing i have noticed is that my writing style is very similar to Watctower's. I use alot of "therefore, futhermore, on the other hand" and i start alot of my sentences with well(in speech). My english professor was slightly irritated with my writing style. The only way i could redeem myself was a use of a bigger vocabulary.

Why do women make up the majority?
by daniel-p ini want to pose what is to me an interesting question: .
why is there a preponderance of women in religion?
i think we all agree that females do make up the majority of pretty much every religion, including jw's, but why?
-
Dune
I never understood why there were so many female witnesses. I mean, what incentive do you have to even want to CONSIDER joining? maybe its the pre-baptisimal lovebombing.

I dont think it was so much as they ran him off as it was that he was disgusted.
I have a very interesting congregation.
We have two post-1975 elders who have gotten Oppression and intimidation tactics down to an Art. Those who were in their favor one day may find themselves at the bottom of the barrell the next.
The ministerial servants have such a disdain for the body of elders that if i could liken this to the real world, i'd say that the elders are dictators and the ministerial servants are a military coupe waiting to happen. There is a particular minsterial servant that convinces some of the publishers to send letters to the CO about problems they've been having.
The congregation is split into two factions, one faction being the piooners who are elder's wives and their entourage and the people who consider themselves to be strong spiritually but arent pioneers.
I'm expecting our congregation to go through deletion or rotation next month.

Our CO hates our congregation. The rotation is 6 montths and he waited 9 months before coming back. When he DID come back, he left in the middle of the week.
He comes back in April :-D.
