I Need help!
by cazza ini need help making one of the most important decisions of my life, i was brought up a witness and fell away nearly 9 years ago.
i firmly believe what i was taught and still believe in the truth.
theres just a few questions i would like asking but never have the opportunity to ask anyone.

Cazza,
You have many questions that nobody can answer because the things you ask are not in the bible. And even not in the WTS books. Everybody who try to answer those specific things gives only their own thoughts.
If there is a lovingly God, why do you not trust him for those things.
Why do you not try to find out more about God, if he really exists, what the bible says etc. Maybe it helps you.
In your post I read a lot of fear. I do not think you have to be afraid. If you erally believe for example that God will kill children because of you, or whatever, is he worth to worship.
Just take your time and examine the things. It will make you free, and loose your fear.

they may be nice to your face but ultimately, they think we (those who do not conform to their beliefs) deserve death.

nor will i deny that there are men and women of science who do not work for money or fame or glory, but rather for "truth", and even for the good of the human race and this planet.. scientists are supposed to be unbiased in their research using the universally accepted "scientific method", being completely objective, and working in the sterile environment of the laboratory, removed from outside contamination and social influence.
they themselves are supposed to approach a subject or investigation with patience and open-mindedness, without prejudice or pre-conceived notions.

I suspect that all too often, neither one is truly "listening" to what the other one is trying to say, since they are too busy putting the other side down, often with no less than knee-jerk reactions. Either that, or they are quietly telling themselves "Oh, that's another one of those believers (or non-believers). I'll just ignore that, or move on." This is the kind of bias I would somehow like to have eliminated or at least minimized as much as is humanly possible for discussion purposes, so that we all might benefit from a real learning experience.
This is true indeed. I am also guilty sometimes on this, as we all are I guess.
However I think listening is very important, and I am very willing to listen to good arguments.Rod, do you want to start the discussion in this thread?
p.s. tetra, nice quotes from Sagan. He is one of my favourites. He understood the importance of involving the general public in sciences. Some scientist tend to forget this.

Everlasting life hinders progress

but, if life spans were into hundreds of yrs, or even thousands, i think change would be very slow.
it is always the new generation that rebels against their parents' ways, bringing in change.

A good scientist would be more able to do more, it takes so much years to learn until you are at the current understanding now.
In many cases that is true, perhaps where analytical skills are needed. As far as creativity and thinking outside of the box, they seem to peak before old age sets in. In their latter yrs, often scientists and researchers are coasting on previous accomplishments, or finessing the details, or in management. 'Couse, it's not always true.
Yes that is true. Well sometimes. Lot of scientist do the best discoveries when they are young. Some don't also. it depends.
So much would change. So many good things also. People would be a lot more concerend about the future, and would have more drive to keep the ecology good and clean.
It would definitly change a lot of thinking about crime, taking risks (more to lose in a accident) and many more things. Some of these would give an extra drive, some would limit things.Danny

even though his clothes were shredded and he was bleeding he continued walking door to door to finish his assigned territory for that day.

Never happened to me,
however when in the FS sometimes the brother or sister said when there was a big dog: just go in, Jehovah will protect us. I would say: sure go in dude, but not me. Then when needed to go alone, they did not trust so much on jehovah anymore....

yes, this theme you see sometimes with Science Fiction writers also.
It is probably true, however not starting again everytime is also someting. A good scientist would be more able to do more, it takes so much years to learn until you are at the current understanding now.
