Only Jehovah appoints elders ?

prior to my resignation from the jws, i heard a taped talk by bro.

kite (appeared to be an american from the bethell) where he spoke about some-one in a communist country joining the org.

and making his way "up the ladder", eventually finishing up as a district overseer.

You do answer your question already I think.

There are two options:

1) Jehovah likes unfaithfull man to be elder. There are/were some elders here too.... Well, he did worse things in the past, but It does not make real sense.

2) Elders are appointed by men.

The last one is very clear. I know of people, oing wrong, not believeing anything of it, being appoited as an elder. No godly prevention.
When are you not appointed as elder:
a) not much fieldservice (however this does not have to be a big problem)
b) other elders do not like you
c) other elders do not trust you
d) no penis
e) no buttkisser

Who here gives to the homeless?

i'm interested in how many here give to the homeless, or any kind of charity, since that was not a part of the witness experience.

i have to admit that my heart is hard ...

No! There is a lot of government-aid for those people.
Government hands out free money, so homeless people are only those wanting no real help. (some exceptions)

(that is why we pay up to 60% income tax, 19.5% VAT, and many other taxes)

There is a lot written about this in previous threads.

The basic is that things are not getting worse.
For example there we (also on this board before) statistics about eathquakes. Not more then before
Disasters not more then before.

Some things are subjective of course. The feeling how save you are. We tend to remember the good things of the past, not the bad things.
search for some statistics.

Another option: the year 1914, is based on the wrong date of 607. This can be proven. many threads about this subject. (so no 1914, no time of end?)

What otehr evidence do they have. Nothing really.
Bible students (not only JW's) have always thought that they are the generation living in the end, if they believed the world is coming to a end someday. Can you give one example of people who thought it would be far away in the future?
Maybe this says enough.....

Why did the WTBTS not sue Ray Franz?

if ray franz had been lying in anything he said in both of his books, c of c and in search of christian freedom, surely the wtbts would have sued him.

why did they take no legal action against him?.

could it be that this legalistic corportion realised he had lied about nothing?

I think they did not want to have more media attention. IMO, They figured that if this would get publicity, a lot more JW's would have known about and start reading the book, and wondering why somebody of the GB left.

More publicity seel more book (see da vincy code).

I guess it worked. Most JW's probably don't even know who Ray Franz is, that a GB member left etc etc.

Why do some brothers quit Pioneering shortly after they get married?

i've noticed this in our congregation, that a lot of brothers who start of pioneering in their mid to late teens, stop shortly after they get married.

maybe they think it's a sister thing.. also, a lot of the friends in the hall who have been to pioneer school, are no longer pioneers.

this seems to be more for the younger jw's, than the older, retired jw's who have nothing else to do.. has this been your experience?

I think there are a lot of broters who start pioneering in the first place to find a spiritual sister.
When they found it, there reason for pioneering is gone.

Know at least a few who had this motivation.

it's interesting you are still a witness. how do you do it? Sorry haven't read about your life yet.
since the promise of paradise doesn't mean anything to you...you must not believe the doctrine. so, fear of losing your family keeps you a witness? what if that fear was gone and your family would love you no matter what. would you stay a witness?

My story isn't that special. I do not believe in a God, let alone the terrorist God of the JW's.
Yes, if it would not be for family and friends you would not see me there anymore.

And well, sooner or later something will happen. I am not very good at shutting my big mouth when it is wise to do so.

But for now, did not really see much reason to leave yet.

isn't that what I pay now? or about...

it did influence me, because I bought a small car, that did not use to much fuel per mile.

This is however not the only reasons. I love the SUV's, but it is a bit unethical to drive in one, for the other traffic.

raised in the truth is probably worse, you loose more.

First of all all your family is in. So leaving them would maybe mean losing a lot of support, friendship etc, from your family. It could mean losing your spouse. Loosing your friends; as grown up in the truth, all your friends should be dubs.

Then there is the what would people say.

Daily: family
weekly: if you forget a meeting
montly: when you hand in your FS report
yearly: memorial, conventions etc.

The other tactics did not mean much to me. promises about paradise etc... The family, friends issue kept me from leaving.

p.s. I did not leave still in the borg, but not a drone....

Europe - Do Their Leaders Have the Guts?

regarding iran's nuke program, the evil george bush stood on the sideline and let the europeans do it their way via diplomacy through the u.n. well, iran has basically told them to screw off and has now re-started it's nuke program and seems to have no intention to stop their development of nukes.

this u.n. delegation has now given iran the "eleventh hour warning" which they will laugh at.

soon it will be brought before the u.n. security counsel and a recommendation to impose sanctions against iran will be made and voted upon.

back to the subject,

I agree that a lot of european nations do not have much action against nations like Iran.
There are many reasons for this, and I think it has not much to do with guts....

There is to much controversy within europe itself by now. It would be quite senseless to make bold statement if you could not get that backed up from other european nations. Europe should be first more united politically before it can really dictate other countries.

Some of the european nations are more democratic then the u.s.a. This means also slower.

It should not be a dessicion of a few countres only. This can only be done by an organisation as the united nations. The UN is not really powerfull, mostly due to the fact that some countries have a right to veto anything. By the way America makes use of this the most.

When you live in a village where there are some problems with certain neightbours, the solution is to have an official controlled agancy to try to solve it. The police etc, in the case of the village. But not the bully who happens to be the strongest.

Another question I never understood: what right do we have to say that Iran can not have nuclear energy, or even nuclear warheads, as we ourselves have plenty. Is this not a terrible (JW like) measuring with two different standards?
