and what other measures can be taken against a jw who does something the elders dissapprove of, short of disfellowshipping?.

(this may sound like a dumb question but i was never a jw)

you can loose being a ministerial servant or being an elder.

But there are more privelidges in the congregation. Like being responsible for handing out kingdom ministeries, making coffee, doing the magazines, handing out terretory maps, walking with the mc, being cheapman, doing the closing prayer, reading the watchtower.
The prevelidges can all be removed.

Then if you are really bad, did something for example but repend, they can do the following:

- forbid you to give talks in the theocratic school

- forbid you to give answers

- forbid you to to field service

This last one is almost never given as punishment. guess why...

1000th post - in retrospect

yes i have made it to a jedi master!

anyway, after 1000 posts it is good to look back, at the time i first came here, and about the information that i found on the board.. when i first entered the board i started posting right away, without reading much first.

this was kind of stupid, because i assumed that most of the people here were active 'faithfull' jw's, with maybe some apostates.

Well done Jedi Master Danny. You are right the R&F JWs are mostly victims of their ignorance and naivity and we were like them once upon a time, it's the leadershp that is really guilty.

yes I agree. I only think it can be difficult for people coming out of the borg, who have some doubts to identify themselves with people who aren't always friendly to JW residu thoughts

Why the British and Japanese drive on the left...

it is a common misconception that driving on the left-hand side of the road is the "wrong" way.

a comment by a poster on another thread reminded me of something i've read.james_woods: the jaguar xke...and driving it on the wrong side of the road (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/106004/1.ashx ).

this is a melange of several articles and my own comments, that explain the reasons for the difference in driving customs... .

Thanks, We seem to think a lot alike, because I almost always also appreciate your posts. It looks like we also left this religion on the same way and for the same reasons.

Books and letters that are not part of the Bible

There are no 'lost books of the Bible', none.

1) If the sacred canon was set by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit then the proper books are there for us to learn about God. All of them, not one is left out.

2) If the selection process was not divinely inspired this is still true, since the church itself determines what it believes. They left out manuscripts that were forgeries and heretical IN THEIR EYES. "That is not a valid book, throw it out!".

I think there must be. I say this because of the quoted that the NT contains that can not be found in any of the OT. The writer must have been quoted to another book.

Even in the bible other books are mentioned. For example the book of jashar is mentioned, where this was mentioned as containing something about Jonathan in the time of David. Funny thing is that it is also mentioned in Josua, hundeds of years before...

" what about the recent dc and circuit assembly talks as well as the watchtowers, very firmly discouraging college.

the reply was " yes they are hearing but not doing "

Generation Change

i left the org slightly before the change in the "generation that was alive in 1914" thing was announced and wondered, what were peoples in the congregations reactions after this was announced and did it you notice people falling away because of it?

has it had a damaging effect?

Hey brother, don't sweat it. The "apostate" trigger was still alive and well when I first joined this forum and I had been out for fourteen years already. Get rid of that trigger and keep looking around for more to rid yourself of.

What? Are there any apostates here? I am still a witness in good standing, I better get the h@ll out of here then....

p.s. in my congregation, it was quite a shock for some. Escpecially for some of those longer in the "truth". They always hoped to see the mass murder at armageddon with there own eyes, now they were not sure anymore.
Lot of others did not cared to much. I guess they could be told almost anything, and don't care. Not a lot of people really expect argameddon any minute anymore anyway.
