i went a week ago to the convention, and had a talk with a intereseted one.. he had some questions about dino's, vegetarism etc.

the usual things.

also about the resolution.. i told him, i did not agree with the resolution, and that it was no allowed very much to think differently.

I told him, I did not agree with the resolution, and that it was no allowed very much to think differently. etc. Probably he though of me as a very relaxed JW.

Does this help him to see the truth about the truth, or does it backfire and does he think that dubs can be relaxed, and not as strict as some think.

Would I not have more sucess if I would be terrible not understanding of him, and would have made things very clear how wrong he was and that if he would like to become a jw, how much he would need to change etc. To play the strikt jw, that would have maybe helped him more....

The plain facts about ANY religion

No it toally does not, indeed.

Had I have been born in babylon before christ (christianity) I would have beleived something completely different than being born in the west in the 20th century and yet all religions are different but only christianity is correct?!?!?

This is exacly what would be expected if evolution was correct. People would not understand everything, and invent explanations. This would of course be different time and place.

I really do not understand religion. Ultimately what disturbs me is that within my limited life span I will probably not be able to accomplish all that I want. Yet life without the poison known as religion is far better.

It depends. I guess religion had its use, in the past. and for some, maybe even now. Hope can make you do things you would normally not do. I guess the human race is just growing up, just a child that starts to understand that Santa does not exists. We will grow up and make this a positive thing, and take our destination in our own hands. It will take time, however. Danny

The WTS was a beneficiary of a trust set up by someone for them. The trust contained tobacco stock. (Click here to link to the info below.) I found after research that this trust does/did indeed contain tobacco stock, but no longer have links to the stock proof--I'm sure you can find it again somehow.

Yes, that is what I have read before.
It is something different then deliberately investing in some tabacco company. I have some funds, like develioping countries funds, and I have to say that I do not know what companies are exactly in them.

Keep in mind the WTS has a legal department and thousands of volunteers--so they had the ability to research what stocks comprised this fund to ensure it didn't conflict with their teachings. They expect jws to not sell tobacco or reap the profits from it, and surely they'd DF jws who did so. Pretty heartless to punish and shun your followers for doing something Mother Borg does herself.

I agree with this. They should have payed attention more.
That they did not, shows that they do not care about that as much as they should do (as they demand with the followers). I would however not think that anyone would be df-ed for having such a fund, or working in a supermarket that sells tabacco products etc.

I don't care if they need to make $. They should "leave it in Jehovah's hands" instead of reaping profits from products that kill 10,000 people every day. Or maybe they don't care because most of those deaths are "worldlings".

I do not think that they care too much, they are all going to die anyway in the big A.
But having a fund that has a (small percentage?) stocks of a tabacco company doe snot make you a murdere, IMHO. Danny

DannyBloem I`ve thought more about your post.Your right the WBTS does rule against smoking and yes that must have saved some lives`s.Unfortunatly the WBTS owns stock in tobbaco giant "Phillip Morris"..Tobbaco contains "Nicotine",one of the most addictive substances on earth.Some say it`s as hard as heroin to quit.Tobbaco company`s are one of the few business`s,whose product kills the customer..It would seem the WatchTower Bible and Tract Society not only cause death`s..They invest in it..$$$$$$$$$...OUTLAW

What I understood, that it was a different company?, and I have not found much hard proof. I'll read the thread again. I wouldnt have thought not for profit organisations would be allowed to deal in stocks and shares. Im pretty sure the whole not-for-profit category would prevent that one. Many non profit organisations are dealing or better to do invest in shares. I do not think this has to be wrong. The WTBTS could us this money a lot better, but must think of the future (and do not say armageddon is coming....) The WTS is not extreme in this case, nor in their yearly revenues. Danny

DannyBloem,the people that have died because of the policies of the WBTS,died needlessly.

Do not all people (or at least alomst all) die needlessly?

Saying you killed 5 there and saved 5 over there,dosen`t even things out.

Some life, some die. That is basically with many policies, historical events, etc. In the WTBTS case some of the tings I mentioned are not related, like the blood issue with the smoking issue. So then yes, you can't just add. But I wanted to show that it is not that black and white, and bad as you want to show it. You can't say "kill" for example, maybe "caused the dead of" would be better, or even a lighter term.

WBTS killed Jehovah`s Witness`s with ever changing rules they don`t follow themselves.It`s not a game.It`s life or death.Unfotunatly a dead Jehovah`s-Witness is good internal advertising for the WBTS.For the WBTS,one dead Jehovah`s witness is worth a thousand live ones,it keeps the rest mindlessly obedient,to the WBTS...OUTLAW

They do not have the intention are desire for any dead witness, but on the other hand, they do not care for any dead witness also. In this case they are not different then many other religions. Danny

hmm, how many witnesses did the society kill?

+ (add) some who died because of not using blood, where other treatments were not sucessfull (and blood would have been successfull) [guess about 1000?]

- (substract) those who did not went smoking (and otherwise would) and from this the percentage that did not get a deadly illness like cancer. [guess about 2% of 35% = about 50000?]

- (add) some who died because of there stand against the government for not going into war, or other political neutrality reasons, like malawi. [guess 20000?]

- (substract) those who did not go to war and woulsd have been killed there (percentage of refusers), but not went to prison or something and lived. [guess 10000?]

- (add) those who could not handle it and commited suicide in the organisation or later after leaving them. [guess 5000?]

- (substract) those who found some happyness in the organisation which kept them from killing themselves [guess 5000?]

- (substract) those who did not have unsafe sex (for various reasons related to the organisation) and did not get a deadly soa. [guess 10000?]

- (add) those who died because of not using treadment (other then blood) for trusting on god more then medicine, or trusting alternatives. [guess 20000?]

lets say a brother or sister loses their job, falls on welfare, doesn't have enough to eat.

what do the elders do?

a) tell them that the organization is not a place to beg but to preach, to give and not to receive.

most of the time B) and they are right to do so.

the social serurity is very well here.

in a few cases that there were really problems, I remember that the congregation really helped. THe brothers and sisters were ask to donate some money, and most of them did. They really helped out that poor brothers and sisters
