  Watchtower August 2020 Are they introducing new light?

  the latest watchtower is now out and they make this statement -.

  7 during the thousand year rule of christ, all of jehovah’s earthly children will have to make changes to please him.

  so all of them will have true fellow feeling as they help the resurrected ones to combat sinful tendencies and to live by jehovah’s standards.

  Don't be so sure that they carefully research their articles to make sure everything is consistent.

  They have no central direction and no "oracle" any more. Their doctrines are a mishmash of the less wacky of Fred Franz's ideas and various random reinterpretations by Splane & company.

  Best bet? Someone in the writing department just used "children of God" because it sounded nice & warm & fuzzy and his proofreader didn't think about "official" WT doctrine about not becoming "children of God until after the 1000 years" because (1) in WT-world, it's not a particularly important point, and (2) as noted above, outside of the core doctrines, it's such a tangled mess who can possibly keep track of it all?

  Field service national average - what do you think it is now?

  it’s always been 10 hours when door to door was active.

  i’m curious of how it’s changed with only letter writing and phone witnessing approved.. i’m curious if they are able to do it for 3 hours like a typical door to door morning.

  i would be surprised.

  Just out of curiosity where do they get addresses and phone numbers for letter writing and calls?

  There are several websites which store the info that used to be in the phone books that dinosaurs like us grew up with.

  One is "Whitepages. com". It has a "reverse address lookup", enter the street address and it tells you who lives there. If there is a landline it will give that to you too. Accuracy is questionable, but it's at least a starting point.

  Some back of the envelope calculations....

  Average publishers there in 2019 was about 29,000.

  As a rough estimate, over a large population, you'd expect about 1% mortality, so 290 per year, or about 25 per month.

  COVID-19 has been there roughly 2 months.

  Over 2 months, in a normal year, you'd expect about 50 JWs in the country to die from old age, accidents, other disease, etc. And 87 have died from COVID-19 alone.

  Some of the JWs who died from COVID-19 in those 2 months may have died in that same time frame from other causes, but certainly not all of them.

  So the conclusion seems to be that COVID-19 has likely at least doubled JW mortality over the past 2 months.

  It's much easier to just turn off your video. Easily 1/3 to 1/2 of the JWs on a typical zoom meeting never bother to turn it on in the first place.

  Have you read how COVID affects human bodies? No one "deserves" to die like that, and calling it "good news" is ghoulish to say the least.

  Wow!

  Ciranko was pretty prominent on the JW broadcasts, did several of those "morning worship" videos that were posted there. He was on not that long ago.

  Didn't the WTS fully & completely lock down all Bethel facilities, at least in the US? No tours, no visits, no Bethelites allowed to leave the compound. No one in or out. The idea was to keep COVID-19 out of Bethel.

  Article mentions that 12 people had contact with him and are isolated. Who did those 12 have contact with? Are they isolated too?

  If the corona virus got into the Bethel compound anyway, and hundreds or thousands of Bethelites were freely mixing thinking that it was safe, there may well be hundreds of cases there in a week or two (well, those cases would be there now, but would not be symptomatic for a while yet).

  EDIT: Just noticed that the article is from April 27. So if there are COVID cases in Bethel, it ought to be very apparent by now.

  Do Jw's Dress up in meeting clothes for Zoom meetings?

  i am just curious if anyone knows whether the "friends" still are required to wear "meeting clothes" for attending meetings through zoom?

  such emphasis on dressing in a godly manner over the decades, would be interesting if some attend in pajamas or their work clothes, no makeup, etc....

  Roughly 1/3 of the participants I've seen on these Zoom meetings join without their own video camera on.

  I'm quite certain at least 90% of those are in various states of casual dress/undress, or lying in bed, or eating, or drinking, or playing video games....

  ...or maybe all of those at once.

  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

  hi guys,.

  it's been a while since i posted here, but i feel like posting again.. it's hard sometimes to find the energy to post here after i expend all my time working a full time job and pretending i care about the wt$ at the same time.. i've been trying to slowly wake my girlfriend up ever since i first posted here, and i must say it is a long waiting game that i am playing right now.

  almost all my efforts are dismissed and i've been slowly losing hope.. anyways, what i meant to really post here today is about old publications.. honestly anything that has to do with the watchtower and jdubs, as of recently makes me feel like vomiting.

  How old is "old"?

  Stuff from the 40s & later is pretty common, might as well just pitch it.

  Stuff from the 30's & earlier might have some collector value, could be sold for a few dollars to perhaps hundreds of dollars.

  Oh, and by the way, "shedding light on contradictory teachings" will change approximately, oh, let's see, about 0% of JW true believers. Google "cognitive dissonance" if you are unfamiliar with the term.
