the irony is, most jws will point accusing fingers at this representative of babylon the grape, but not realize that their own message preached every saturday morning is essentially the same: "worship god our way, or don't come crying to us when armageddon comes"

Perhaps a "huge number" is inaccurate. How about a "significant number"?
I of course have no proof, just basing it on anecdotal evidence.
However, I still contend that there are large numbers of computer illiterate elders out there.
In any case, no such letter has been sent to "all congregations". Neither our congregation, nor any in the immeidate area, received such a letter.

My take on the matter is this:
If this were such an important, deal-breaking, saved-or-not-saved issue to get right, then it would be clearly, unambiguously, explicitly taught directly in the Bible.
As it is, there are scores of texts which seem to indicate one way or the other. Milenniums of debate between the "Is Jesus God or not" camps demonstrate that the issue is completely ambiguous.
To think that one's salvation depends on getting this one issue right--and if you get it wrong, off to the inferno--is, IMHO, preposterous. Any God who would base judgment on this issue doesn't deserve worship.
And if it's not a salvation issue, well, it's an interesting topic, but who cares?

False, and a little more paranoid than usual.
A huge number of congregations have few or no elders under the age of 70, and who have rarely or never even turned a computer on, much less surfed the internet.
And the Society is going to send a letter to "all congregations" saying "go to this particular website, look for anyone you recognize, and remove their privileges"?
i have not yet to find another organization in the world that is like jw.
yes it has made mistakes, there imperfect humans, but what other organization in the world goes preaching house to house like jesus did.
why is that jw are persecuted all over the world?

why not the catholic church or others religions?
i dont understand that how a religion that douesn't go to war, don't buy guns, they preach for free they dont get paid,there not rasist, they love there neighbors they treat others well, they dont bother you if you dont want them to pass by your house they wont.
why so much hate, if they go strictly by what the bible says.

okay, i am in the library at my college and seriously, five minutes ago i was walking past some tables in the building right outside the library, these are tables where people just sit and hang out and talk, and sitting on the table was an issue of awake from 1993!
why on earth is someone passing that out?
it is like pretty old looking, some of the pages stick (gross) and some of the pages are like bent over (dog-earred).
This is one of the "old light" Awakes, talking about the "generation of 1914" on the inside cover.
Here's what you can do:
Take the mgazine, and find the nearest JW (perhaps they have a booth somewhere on campus, if they are often leaving literature around). Open to page 4, and in the little box "Why Awake is Published", point to the last sentence which reads "this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away".
Regardless of the magzine's topic, point to that in the box and tell the JW, "This sounds so exciting! A new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away! There aren't many of them left--they must all be at least 95 years old! Tell me more about this 'generation of 1914'!"
And don't let them change the topic. Make them explain clearly how the date 1914 was chosen, and if they try to get around it by saying "we don't believe that any more", ask them why not, and "But I thought it was the Creator's promise about 1914?!? He wouldn't lie or change his mind, would he?"
aaron's thread over in the "personal experiences" section really got me thinking about how it was to grow up a jw child in the 80's.
i was born in 1979. so, i missed the 1970's.

I wonder how many different generations of JW children have heard that comment? I've known JW's from my parent's generation that heard that comment in the 1930's
I can top that.
In one of my former congregations, there was a JW whose mother died in the late 30's / early 40's. She made her kids take a death bed oath to never marry, since Armageddon was just "a few months away".
And, none of them married. The siblings all lived together for the next 60+ years, though I don't think most remained active JWs. The one in my old congregation stopped preaching in the 90's, but still goes to the Kingdom Hall and comments regularly.
No one knows how old he is, best estimates are late 80's / early 90's. He's one of the few left anywhere who remembers what it was like to be a JW in the Rutherford era.
